Ryan Clark explains why he won’t cry sabotage over Shedeur Sanders
Analyst Ryan Clark defended his measured take on Browns QB Shedeur Sanders, saying limited reps reflect team priorities, not intentional sabotage.

Former NFL defensive back and current analyst Ryan Clark is addressing the backlash over his recent comments on Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders. Clark, who has been widely praised for his NFL insight, recently defended his measured take on Sanders via Instagram.
Ryan Clark fires back at critics, stands by take on Shedeur Sanders
Clark’s initial comments suggested that Sanders is being treated just as any other fifth-round pick would be treated. He argued that just because Sanders frequently appears in the media, fans are crying for him to get a shot and accusing the NFL of a conspiracy. For Clark, this is just the standard for a fifth-rounder.
He has now explained that while he acknowledges the challenges Sanders faced during the pre-draft process, where anonymous reports reportedly questioned his character, he doesn’t see evidence of intentional sabotage by the Browns. “I’m not gonna holler sabotage and racism when I don’t truly believe something is sabotage and racism,” Clark said.
The former LSU standout empathizes with Sanders’ situation, having himself entered the NFL as an undrafted player. “Fifth-round draft picks get fifth-round treatment…just as I understand, Shedeur Sanders will not get the same reps as a Dillon Gabriel,” Clark said. He emphasized that Sanders’ limited preseason reps reflect organizational priorities, not a personal vendetta.

Clark also acknowledged that while the Browns gave Sanders a chance that other teams wouldn’t, their track record of handling young players has been far from flawless. “For better or worse, they’re the team tasked with it…they were the one organization willing to give him an opportunity,” he added.
Ultimately, Clark’s take balances fairness to both the player and the organization, standing against the heated reactions from some Sanders supporters. He argues Sanders’ journey will require patience, hard work, and an understanding of NFL realities, not assumptions of conspiracy.
