Saints 22 - 30 Rams summary, stats, scores and highlights | NFL Week 16
Carr found A.T. Perry on a deep ball and all of the sudden the Saints were back in the game in the blink of an eye. Olave made the catch for the two point conversion on the play after the Perry TD, but the onside kick was recovered by the Rams and LA survived a late game scare for the second straight week to get an even more firm grasp on a Wild Card spot in the NFC.
The Saints will now turn their attention on the game against the Bucs next week in Tampa. That will most likely determine who wins the NFC South. They will still have a chance at one of the three Wild Card spots but it seems like it's going to be a more direct route to win the division with so many teams hovering around 7-7 coming into this week.
The comeback became a little more believable when JT Gray blocked the Rams punt and set up another TD drive on a short field.
The Saints only trip to the red zone came much too late. Carr hit Juwan Johnson at the pylon with under seven to go, but it was going to take a miracle for New Orleans make a comeback from 23 down.
The most important player on the Rams isn't Matthew Stafford, or Cooper Kupp or their rookie sensation Puka Nacua. It's their other rookie, Kyren Williams who got 104 yards on 22 carries with this TD that essentially put the game to bed in the third quarter. The former Fighting Irish RB has plugged into Sean McVay's offense and has taken some of the burden on the offensive side off of Matt Stafford's shoulders.
The Saints had the ball inside the 50 again, but failed to convert their second three failed 4th down conversions, which gave the ball back to Stafford and the Rams right before the halftime break. Stafford hit Demarcus Robinson who led LA in receiving in the first half with 82 yards on six catches. He would end the game with six catchces, but the rest of the WR room would come to life in the second half.
who marched down the field and scored with this one yard strike to Demarcus Robinson who leads all Rams WRs with 82 yards on 6 catches.
The Saints were moving the ball but their problems started once they got into LA territory. They punted once, and turned it over on downs inside the 50, but after a missed field goal by the Rams, Carr found Shaeed on this deep ball to the endzone to cut into the Rams lead. The Saints would only enter the red zone one time and it came in the 4th quarter when the game was essentially out of hand.
It was a must win battle for two teams that are competing for the final few Wild Card Spots in the NFC. The Rams started off the night with a perfect 15 play, 95 yard drive that was capped off by a 4th and Goal TD pass to Puka Nacua. LA had no problem moving down the field, but they weren't as efficient once they hit the red zone, going 3-6 inside the 20.

NFC Standings
Taking a look at the standings in the NFC we see the Niners at the top of conference with the Cowboys and the Lions sitting right behind San Fran. At 7-7 Rams don’t have a chance at the division, which means they are going to have to focus all their efforts on a Wild Card spot. They come into the week currently with the final playoff spot, but there are other 7-7 teams looking to knock them off. One of those 7-7 teams is the Saints who are also fighting for a playoff spot via winning the division. The Bucs lead the division, and depending on what happens tonight, next week’s game in Tampa Bay could determine the NFC South.
Red zone revolution
New Orleans have had their well documented troubles in the red zone this season. Between the 20s they are great, but when it comes to scoring in tight spaces, the Saints are one of the worst teams in the league at 52% TD rate. Alvin Kamara finding his way in the Saints offense after serving a short suspension to start the season is certainly curing some of those red zone ails. In the final three games of the season, in which every possession, every play and every point counts, New Orleans have no room for error tonight against a raising Rams team.
Stafford still has plenty of gas in the tank
This just in. Matt Stafford can still sling it. OK that may not be breaking news but the Rams offense has caught fire since their Super Bowl winning QB has stepped back in the spotlight after missing a few games to injury. In the last five games, Stafford has thrown for over 1,200 yards and 10 TDs with just two INTs to propel the Rams into playoff position coming into tonight. He is the anchor of the offense, but a bit of the burden has been lifted off his shoulders thanks to Kyren Williams and the blossoming running game.
Rams last week
The Rams rattled off their third win in the last four game to stay at .500 on the season thanks to a 20-0 head start the Rams jumped off to in the first two quarters and change. A Kyren Williams one yard TD run and a 60 yard Cooper Kupp catch and run to extend the lead in the first minute of the third quarter. Jacoby Brissett and the Commanders would make a comeback bid after Sam Howell got benched the second half. Brissett thew two fourth quarter TDs to bring the Rams within striking distance with 1:46 to go. The Commanders tried an onside kick but Kupp swiped it out of bounds to seal the deal and bring the Rams back to .500.
Saints last week
The Saints had a second straight cup cake game after their three games losing streak that put their playoff chances in serious jeopardy. Since then, they have beaten the Panthers and then the Giants to get back to .500 last week. Derek Carr tossed three TDs to silence some of the boo birds as the Saints defense kept Tommy DeVito quiet all day from the Super Dome. The rookie sensation and the rest of the offense was kept out of the end zone for 60 minutes as the Saints offense woke up in the second half and buried New York with a one yard Carr pass to Jimmy Graham to put the game out of reach.
We are live from SoFi
Hello everyone and welcome to LaLa Land where the Rams are coming on riding a wave of resurgence after the return of their QB and one of the best receivers in the league. The Rams looked lost as they dropped three straight and seemed to be falling out of the playoff picture in the NFC, but the comeback for their Super Bowl winning quarter back and their top pass catcher has propelled them to a three wins in their last four and all of the sudden there are playoff possibilities for this team that was previously written off. They are going to have to deliver a home win against a Saints team that has rolled through some of the weakest teams in the league over the last couple of weeks. Now it’s time for New Orleans to put up or shut up against a Rams team that is aiming for a Wild Card spot.
Saints vs. Rams
It’s the most wonderful time of the year. Sure it might be the holiday season, but more importantly we have end of season NFL football. There are going to be a lot of games that will have a heavy hand in deciding playoff spots, and tonight we are lucky enough to open Week 16 with a must win matchup between the Rams and the Saints. AS English will be with you all night providing live coverage, stats, highlights and analysis of tonight’s game from SoFi Stadium.
