Saints 13 vs 26 Chiefs summary, stats, scores and highlights | Week 5
Right after the Saints cut the lead to a field goal, the Chiefs punched right back with a 5 play TD drive set up by a 50 yard Smith-Schuster catch and run. The one time Chiefs that is back in KC ended the night with 130 yards as the Chiefs look to replace Rashee Rice, and Smith-Schuster made his case on Monday night.
It was Xavier Worthy who got into the end zone and sealed the game on this trick play with Travis Kelce in the shot gun and Worthy lined up next to him as a running back. The rookie ran it in from 3 yards out and the defense would take care of buinsess from there.
The Chiefs head to their early BYE week at 5-0, and finally had an offensive performance that reminded us of KC teams from years previous. The Saints dropped their third straight game after looking like the top team in the league over the first two weeks of the season. They will now shift their focus to Derek Carr and his injured oblique with a big NFC South match up against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The Saints took advantage of the KC red zone turnover by making their first trip to the red zone. Derek Carr found Foster Morneau for the TD to cut the lead to 3 after the missed PAT from New Orleans.
Carr would exit the game late in the 4th quarter, and would not come back due to an oblique injury.
With the Chiefs knocking on the door, Mahomes looked for JuJu Smith-Schuster in the endzone but the WR bobbled the ball and it was picked off by Khalen Saunders, whose brother is a back up dancer for Taylor Swift. He laid a big hit on Travis Kelce the play before making this pick, and despite the Saints being dominated they were right back in the game.
The New Orleans Saints had trouble building drives all night long. They got into the red zone just once all game, but they didn't need to on this drive. Derek Carr hit Rashid Shaheed with this 43 yard TD catch to bring the Saints to within 3.
The Chiefs dominated the first half, but settled for 3 field goals and went into the half up 16-7. They would go just 2/7 in the red zone, as Harrison Butker enjoyed a busy night kicking field goals.
The Chiefs eased down the field on their first drive of the night as Mahomes went 4/4 to start the game which set up this 5 yard run from Kareem Hunt who was back in KC as a Chief for the first time since 2018. Hunt ended the night with 102 yards on 27 carries.
The Kansas City Chiefs end Week 5 as one of two undefeated teams in the NFL after their comfortable win over the New Orleans Saints. Patrick Mahomes had 331 yards as the Chiefs racked up 460 total yards.
The Chiefs used their defense to lead them int their first four wins, but the offense dominated as the defense had an fairly easy night from Arrowhead. The defense did come out and set the tone with an early interception made by Bryan Cook.
IT'S ALL OVER FROM KANSAS CITY!!!
The Chiefs head into their early BYE week 5-0, joining the Vikings as the only undefeated teams in the league. The Saints have lost three straight and now all the focus turns to Derek Carr and his injured oblique before their game against the Bucs next week.

Kelce birthday special in store
It was Travis Kelce's birthday last week, so that means a couple things. First, he is primed for a big game tonight against a team that struggles to defend tight ends. Second, Travis will have some special guests in the box for tonight's game including his brother and girlfriend. Maybe you have heard of her.
Tonight's odds
The undefeated Chiefs come into tonight as considerable favorites in front of their home crowd. The odds makers have the Chiefs as 5.5 point favorites with the Over/Under set at 43.
Spread: Chiefs -5.5 (-110), Saints +5.5 (-110)
Over/Under: Over 43 (-110), Under 43 (-110)
Moneyline: Chiefs -250, Saints +200
The question tonight is, where are the Chiefs points going to come from? The Falcons have shown they can put up points in three of their four games, and with the Chiefs injuries piling up, Mahomes is going to have to be even more magic. I don’t know where the points will come from but I don’t dare bet against Mahomes, at home, in primetime.
Chiefs win 28-17.
Saints vs. Chiefs: Head to head
These two interconfertnce teams have only met 12 times before tonight. KC holds the narrow edge over the Saints, having won 7 and lost 5 games, and the Chiefs have won the last three match ups including the last game match up which came in December of 2020. Patrick Mahomes had three TD passes and LeVeon Bell capped the game with a 12 yard TD run in the 32-29 win from New Orleans.
KC's long injury list
While the record might tell you the Chiefs are going strong through the first month of the season, reality paints a different picture. Aside from the Chiefs narrow wins, Kansas City is dealing with a handful of injuries that are making life awfully difficult for Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid. Isaiah Pacheco went down with a fractured fibula against the Bengals in Week 2, and was placed on the injured reserve which will keep him out at least four weeks. The Chiefs then saw Mahomes’ favorite WR go down with a season ending injury in a bizarre accident in which Mahomes hit Rashee Rice trying to track down a Charger that picked off one of his passes. Mahomes hit Rice in the knee and the top target for the Chiefs had to be carried off in a medical cart.
NFL Standings
Taking a look at the league standings, we see two undefeated teams but there is no longer a winless team following the Jags win over the Colts. The Vikings are the only team at 5-0 and the Chiefs will be hoping to join them tonight with a win over the Saints. The Chiefs are looking to continue their dominance over the rest of the AFC West while the Saints are looking to win a division that is suddenly one of the toughest in the NFL. New Orleans can keep pace with the Falcons and Bucs, or fall behind in the division race depending on how they come out of Arrowhead tonight.
Season recap: Saints
The Saints jumped off the block and made an early statement to the rest of the league with back to back blowout wins over the Panthers and the Cowboys. They scored 92 points in the first two games of the season, and everyone trembled at the feet of the Saints to start the season. The Eagles gave them a dose of reality with a low scoring, defensive slugfest in Week 3. The defense played well for most of the game, but gave up a 65 yard TD run to Saquon Barkley to allow Philly their first points of the game early in the 4th quarter. The Saints would retake the lead right before the Two Minute Warning but would lose it shortly after thanks to a big catch and run from Dallas Godert which set up Saquon Barkley’s second TD run of the game with 61 seconds on the clock. They Saints would lose another tight game last week against the Falcons to drop to 2-2.
Season recap: Chiefs
The Chiefs are looking to make history this year, seeking a third straight Super Bowl title, but what they have come to figure out is nothing is going to come easy. They are 4-0 coming into tonight, but could just as easily be 2-2, 1-3, or even 0-4. Their season opener they won by a toe as the Ravens’ Isaiah Likely caught a potential game winner with one toe out of bounds in the back of the end zone. They played the Bengals next, and faced a 4th and long late in the 4th quarter and a pass interference flag would set them up with a first down and a game winning field goal. In Week 3, the Falcons took them down to the wire and weren’t as fortunate getting a pass interference call that would have set them up at the 1 yard line and given them a chance to take the lead with just seconds left. They went down to the Chargers early last week, but would take the lead mid way through the fourth quarter and avoid any late game scares from LA to improve to 4-0 coming into tonight.
Last game: Saints
The Saints had an all NFC South showdown on Sunday night in Atlanta and took the Falcons down to the wire. Both teams went back and forth, exchanging the lead five different times. Derek Carr went for 239 yards and the run game totaled 131 yards and three TDs, including the go ahead TD from Alvin Kamara with a minute left in the fourth quarter, but the Falcons would respond thanks to another late game winning drive from Kirk Cousins and a pass interference call on Paulson Adebo that put Atlanta at Saints 40 yard line. That set up Younghoe Koo for a game winning 58 yard field goal, which he hit with 2 seconds on the clock, dropping the Saints to 2-2 on the season.
Last game: Chiefs
The Chiefs got off to a nightmare start against the Chargers last week in LA. They fumbled the ball on their first possession and Mahomes threw a pick on the next possession as LA went up 10-0 in the opening quarter. The offense was stuck in a rut, going three and out in the next two possessions but Mahomes finally hit Xavier Worthy on a 54 yard TD pass to put the first points on the board. The defense buckled down and held the Chargers out of the end zone for the final three quarters and Samaje Perine put the Chiefs in the lead with 6 minutes left in the 4th quarter. Mahomes ended the day with 245 yards passing and a TD, while the run game totaled 101 yards but it was far from a Chiefs performance that we have grown accustomed to over the last few years.
