San Francisco 49ers acquire Christian McCaffrey in trade with Carolina Panthers
The San Francisco 49ers have acquired star running back Christian McCaffrey from the Carolina Panthers in exchange for a bundle of draft picks in 2023 and 2024.
The Carolina Panthers are one of the worst teams in the entire NFL this season, sitting at the bottom of the NFC South with a record of 1-5 after six weeks. After firing head coach Matt Rhule, they have now gotten rid of their best offensive player.
According to a report by Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the San Francisco 49ers acquired running back Christian McCaffrey in exchange for picks in the second, third, and fourth rounds of the 2023 NFL Draft and one in the fifth round of 2024. The Panthers have yet to make an official announcement of the trade.

In the same report it is stated that the Panthers also held talks to send the running back to the Los Angeles Rams. According to Rapoport, the Carolina team was looking for two first-round picks.
So far this season, McCaffrey has tallied 393 yards and two touchdowns on the ground and 277 yards and a touchdown in the air. According to ESPN’s statistics service, the 26-year-old has accumulated 39.8 percent of the Panthers’ total yards. With his addition, the Niners already have three of the best players who generate yards after reception, the other two being Deebo Samuel and Jauan Jennings.
1,000-yard RB
The 49ers have acquired McCaffrey with the intention of getting a running back who can reach 1,000 rushing yards. The last time a San Francisco player achieved that goal was in 2014, when five-time Pro Bowler Frank Gore recorded 1,106 yards.
