The NFL teams had to get their rosters down to 53 players by 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday and that was no easy task for the San Francisco 49ers. Some of the moves they made on Tuesday were quite surprising, with several players who looked like they were primed to make it onto the team getting cut. Some of the more surprising cuts included guard Jarett Kingston, cornerback Rock Ya-Sin, tight ends Eric Saubert and Logan Thomas, and offensive tackles Chris Hubbard and Brandon Parker.
The Niners cut five tight ends on Tuesday, leaving just George Kittle and Jake Tonges as his backup. Eric Saubert looked to have the TE2 position locked, and Thomas had just re-signed last week after returning from a hamstring injury. Likewise, the Niners’ cuts at offensive tackle left just two players on the roster at that position - Jaylon Moore and Colton McKivitz.
