Saquon Barkley sends brutal message to Cowboys, Commanders

Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley made a blunt comment about his NFC East rivals that’s causing a buzz in the NFL.

Update:

The New York Giants made a huge mistake when they let running back Saquon Barkley walk away last season. But their loss was the Philadelphia Eagles’ gain as Barkley went on to lead the league in rushing attempts (325), rushing yards (2,005), scrimmage touches (378) and scrimmage yards (2,283), and added 15 rushing touchdowns on his way to Super Bowl victory with the Eagles.

But as it turns out, the Giants weren’t the only NFC East team to have made a big mistake, and Barkley is taking it personally.

Barkley’s blunt message to NFC East rivals

The other two teams in the division - the Dallas Cowboys and Washington Commanders - were also in the market for a running back at the start of the 2024 season. But rather than pursuing Barkley, the Cowboys decided to stick with Rico Dowdle, and the Commanders brought on Austin Ekeler to play alongside Brian Robinson Jr.

And in fact, neither team even reached out to Barkley once he hit free agency. Barkley said he “never heard a word” from either team. He then added, “That’s why it’s BTA when I see them.”

If you’re new here (or just out of the loop), BTA stands for “beat that a**”, which Barkley did do to both teams last season, though he was particularly relentless with Dallas. At least the Commanders had a decent run game in the 2024 season. The Cowboys, however, saw Dowdle lead the team in scrimmage yards with just 1,328 and just five touchdowns. Oh, and he’s gone now.

The Eagles, meanwhile, quickly locked Barkley into a contract extension through 2028, a move that’s already paid off with a championship. For Dallas and Washington, the snub may prove to be a costly mistake.
