Black out the Motor City
You know it’s a big night when the Lions bring out the black and blue jerseys for a primetime showdown. The Lions released the black jerseys back in 1948, and brought back the classic look for a couple seasons in the early 2000s. The special jerseys always have a way of injecting a little extra fire and a little extra juice throughout the squad. The Ravens wore their black out jerseys on Sunday night football, and look how it turned out for them. Ford Field is always amped, but on Monday night, with the black jerseys, it’s going to be like a playoff game in Detroit.
Megatron night at Ford Field
It’s a big night in Detroit, and not just because Monday Night Football is in the house. Calvin Johnson was one of the most dominant receivers the game has ever seen, and he will be honored at Ford Field tonight. The man they called Megatron played all of his nine NFL seasons in Detroit, where he had seven 1,000 yard receiving years including his record breaking year in 2012 in which he set the single season record with 1,964 yards. He and Matthew Stafford were one of the most exciting QB/WR tandems in the league, but they never had a team around them to make the Lions a real contender. Things are different in Detroit these days. He still looks like he could suit up and run a few deep routes for Goff.
KWIII back for Seahawks
The Seahawks are 3-0 after the first three games of the season, and maybe one of the most surprising things about their perfect start to the year is they have done so without their starting running back Kenneth Walker III for the last two weeks. KWIII suffered an oblique injury in the Seahawks Week 1 win over the Broncos. In that time Zach Charbonnay has carried the load, going for 141 yards and three TDs on 40 carries with another 76 yards receiving. Tonight the Seahawks will have both of their top rushers in the backfield, and they will need them against this stingy Lions defense.
Star watch: Seahawks
There are some plays that truly incredible players make that make you drop your jaw in awe of how physically gifted a player is. They are surrounded by the greatest athletes in the world, but some are just a cut above. That’s the case with DK Metcalf who has been Geno Smith’s top target over the last few years. In the last two weeks Metcalf has taken two different passes for 50+ yard TDs, and is proving to be one of the best deep targets in the game. He’s got 262 yards on 17 receptions, but half of those yards have come for his two long TD catches.
Star watch: Lions
The Lions had the second pick in the NFL draft back in 2022, and placed all of their faith on a local kid who dominated the college ranks at the University of Michigan. Aiden Hutchinson has quickly turned into one of the best pass rushers in the game, with many comparing him to some of the greats. He is in season three of his young career, and he already has 27.5 sacks. He had 11.5 in his sophomore season and in the first three games of this year, he’s got 6.5 QB sacks. Names like Reggie White and Lawrence Taylor get floated around when talking about Hutchinson, and for a pass rusher that is the highest honor you could ask for.
Season recap: Lions
The Lions started their season on Monday Night football against the LA Rams, and despite a heroic effort from Matthew Stafford, Detroit was able to close the game out in overtime thanks to a David Montgomery TD on the first drive of the extra session. They would host the Bucs in the next game, and outgain Tampa Bay 463-216, but the Lions went 1/7 in the red zone and Baker Mayfield downed Detroit with a TD scramble in the 3rd quarter which gave the Bucs a 20-16 lead with a quarter of an hour to go. Goff and the Lions responded with a narrow win over the Cardinals last week, but they are quickly finding out they are getting everyone’s best shot every week. That’s what happens when you are tabbed to be one of the top teams in the league.
Season recap: Seahawks
There have been a handful of surprises around the league in the first four weeks of the season. Teams we though were supposed to be really good have started slowly, and teams we didn’t think much of have jumped out to incredible starts. Seattle is one of those teams that have been a pleasant surprise starting the season 3-0, but just how much stock do we take into their perfect record? They beat a Denver team with a rookie QB making his NFL debut. They beat a New England team that had half of their offensive line missing, and then crushed the Dolphins who couldn’t move the ball with Tua sidelined.
Last game: Lions
It was far from a perfect game for Detroit, who went into Arizona and controlled the Cardinals from the opening drive. David Montgomery put the Lions up with a TD from a yard out on a day in which he went for 105 yards and a TD, and Jared Goff had a couple of first half TD passes including a hook and ladder play that went for a touchdown at the end of the first half to put DET up 20-7. The 13 point cushion was all the Lions defense need to shut down Kyler Murray and the Cardinals offense as Detroit got back into the win column in Week 3.
Tonight's odds
The Seahawks are undefeated, but they come into tonight as 4.5 point underdogs at Ford Field tonight. The Over/Under is set at 47, so points are expected despite the Lions offense not hitting full stride just yet.
Under the bright lights in Detroit, I think the Lions unleash the full fury of their offense tonight. Their defense has been doing the dirty work for the first three weeks of the season, but tonight Goff, St Brown and their running back duo of Montgomery and Gibbs turn it on during primetime and win this game easily.
Lions win 26-12.
Last game: Seahawks
Seattle hosted a Dolphins team who were with out Tua Tagovailoa last week, and the defense shut the Miami offense down without their leader of the orchestra under center. The Seahawks jumped all over the Dolphins in the first 15 minutes thanks to Zach Charbonnet’s four yard run, and then a 71 yard TD connection from Geno Smith to DK Metcalf. Miami back up Skylar Thompson was knocked out of the game, and the Miami offense went from stagnant to non existent as the Seahawks eased to their third straight win of the season.
We are live from Ford Field
Hello everyone and welcome to the Motor City where the Lions are back home after a tough road trip to the desert in which the offense still wasn’t flowing but the defense did enough to hold off the Cardinals. It’s been a constant problem to start the season, but the Detroit defense has taken charge and led the Lions in the first tree weeks of the campaign. Tonight they have a difficult match up against one of the most surprising teams of the young season in the Seahawks. The Mike Macdonald era is off to a perfect from Seattle after a fairly breezy schedule in the opening three weeks, but tonight they will be put to the test against a Lions team that are a contender in the NFC for the first time in a long time.
Seahawks vs. Lions
One of the last remaining undefeateds put their perfect record to the test tonight in Detroit against a team many feel could represent the NFC in the Super Bowl this season. It’s a Monday Night matchup between the Seattle Seahawks and the Detroit Lions and AS English will be with you all night providing live coverage, stats, highlights and analysis of tonight’s marquee matchup from Ford Field.
