Sean McVay takes rap for Rams’ loss to Bills
For the first time in McVay’s coaching career, the Rams fell in the opening game. This time, after being crowned NFL champions.
Despite going into the opening game of the 2022 campaign as the defending NFL champions, the Rams were handcuffed by the Bills and a member of Los Angeles took full responsibility for the defeat. During the post-game press conference, head coach Sean McVay said he would assume the blame for the disaster and assured his decision-making did not benefit the Rams on the gridiron.
“We weren’t ready to go. It’s my fault”, he admitted in comments picked up by The Associated Press. “There were many decisions that I made that did not put us in the best position to win.”
The Rams showed several deficiencies at home. They scored just 10 points, which came in the second period; his rushing game was limited to 52 yards and Matthew Stafford was intercepted three times and sacked seven times (higher under McVay).
Lesson learned
Looking at the positives, McVay assured that Thursday night’s game served as a lesson to the Rams’ locker room and added that the loss to the Bills will not define the course of the organization in 2022. “Tonight was a humbling night,” he told USA Today. “My favorite part of sport is the opportunity to respond. This is chapter one of 17 guaranteed episodes we have.”
