Sean McVay’s contract details: What’s the Rams' coach’s salary and how many years are left?

The Los Angeles Rams will be entering their Thursday Night Football game against the San Francisco 49ers feeling good. They are fresh off an upset victory over the Buffalo Bills in Week 14. A good bit of credit for that win must be given to Rams head coach Sean McVay, whose game management in the final quarter was a big difference-maker in the victory.

The Rams have a gem with McVay and they know it. In his first six seasons, he led the team to four playoff berths, three NFC West titles, and two Super Bowl appearances with one championship.

McVay’s current contract and years left with the Rams

McVay, who has been the Rams' head coach since 2017, helped bring the Rams to Super Bowl victory in the 2021-22 season and was rewarded with a contract extension for the following season.

Before the extension, McVay was making around $8.5 million in 2021. With his contract extension, which runs through the 2026 season, he is making around $14-15 million a year and is the third-highest-paid coach in the NFL, according to Pro Football Network.

The Rams are currently 7-6 and eighth in the NFC seeding, looking to get back into the postseason this year. If McVay continues to have this success over the next few seasons, the Rams may want to consider giving him another extension after the 2026 season. Whether or not he’ll want that is another story.

McVay was reportedly offered a five-year, $100-million broadcast deal with Amazon in 2022 but turned it down to stay with the Rams. He admitted that the offer was tempting, but ultimately chose to try for another Super Bowl run in Los Angeles. Still, he’s spoken of early retirement and there’s no telling what he’ll decide in a few years' time.

If he is open to staying as a head coach in the NFL a bit longer, the Rams should definitely consider bringing him back for longer.
