National anthem
It's one of the biggest moments of the night. The National Anthem kicks off the game, and this year the honor of singing the Star Spangled Banner goes to Charlie Puth. There have been some historic anthems sang at the Super Bowl, but none are more iconic than Whitney Houston in the 1991 Super Bowl.
From Jay-Z to Adam Sandler, Hollywood and music's biggest names are packed into Levi’s Stadium to watch the Patriots and Seahawks face off.
Cooper Kupp going for #2
Cooper Kupp did not want to leave Los Angeles at the end of last season. He made that clear to the team, to the fans and to his followers on social media. The Rams ended up letting him go and Kupp signed with the division rival Seattle Seahawks. Not only is he back in the Super Bowl after winning it with LA, but he got here by burying the team that let him go last year. The Seahawks took down the Rams in the NFC Championship and as chance would have it, Kupp had the game winning TD and a massive third down pick up late in the fourth quarter to help close out LA.

The Super Bowl is heading to Santa Clara, and it couldn't be a better setting for the biggest game of the year. It’s perfect football weather at Levi’s Stadium. It will be a chilly afternoon in Santa Clara, but the sun will be shining for most of the game, and temperatures will be in the low 60s around kickoff.

Pete Rozelle Trophy
The Pete Rozelle Trophy is awarded to the Super Bowl MVP. It debuted in 1990, after years of the Super Bowl MVP getting a car as a prize for being named MVP since the MVP was voted by SPORT magazine and the official vehicle sponsor of the NFL was General Motors. The first player to win it was Ottis Anderson of the New York Giants when he led his team to a win over the Buffalo Bills in 1991. The player with the most Pete Rozelle trophies is Tom Brady with five.

Tonight's odds
The Seattle Seahawks are considered 4.5 point favorites over the New England Patriots tonight from Levi’s Stadium. They pay (-245) to win out right while the Patriots are (+200) and the Over/Under is set at 45.5. It’s the biggest day of the gambling year, and those are just three of the options of things to bet on tonight from Santa Clara.
Jon Bon Jovi introduces Patriots
Longtime Pats fan Jon Bon Jovi took the field to introduce the New England Patriots, who took the field to Ozzy's “Crazy Train”.
Lomardi Trophy: Football's ultimate prize
The Lombardi Trophy is footballs most hallowed prize. Named after Vince Lombardi, the legendary coach of the Green Bay Packers, it was first awarded in 1967 to the winner of Super Bowl I. The design was drawn up on a cocktail napkin during lunch between commissioner Pete Rozelle and the vice president of Tiffany & Co. That would late become knows as the Lombardi Trophy, and both of these teams will be looking to lift it at the end of the night.
No MVP for May
Drake Maye just missed out on the MVP award on Thursday night. It was presented at the NFL Honors, and Matt Stafford was named MVP in his 17th year. Drake Maye wasn't at the ceremony since he has a little more important things to do at the moment. Now the second year quarterback who finished second in voting has a chance to go out and prove all the doubters wrong. MVPs are nice, but Maye just like Stafford, would tell you the Lombardi Trophy means a whole lot more than an individual award.

Super Bowls by team
The New England Patriots are the all time winningest teams in Super Bowl history tied with the Pittsburgh Steelers. They both have six, but NE can make it a seventh today. If they were to do so, they would tie Tom Brady, who has more Super Bowl rings than any franchise in the league. The Cleveland Browns, Detroit Lions, Houston Texans, Jacksonville Jaguars, Minnesota Vikings, Buffalo Bills, Los Angeles Chargers, Tennessee Titans, Arizona Cardinals, Carolina Panthers, Atlanta Falcons, and Cincinnati Bengals have never won the Super Bowl. Here is the list of the teams with most Super Bowls.

Winning SB on enemy territory
The Seattle Seahawks have a chance to do something extremely rare. Not only can they win the Super Bowl, but they can do it on their NFC West division rivals home turf. It would be a double dose of joy if they were to win it in San Francisco´s home. They had a Week 18 game against San Fran on this same field and beat the Niners in a battle for the one seed. It's happened six times before and Seattle is looking to make it a seventh.
Big game Sammy D
It's been a story that has followed Sam Darnold since last year. He lost his last two games with Minnesota, and in ugly fashion. There was talk that it would effect the deal he got in the offseason but he still got a big money deal from the Seahawks, and he has been rewarding them with big performances in big games. None was bigger than the NFC Championship and Darnold went for 346 yards, and three TDs in the biggest game of his life. Now he has a chance to shut the world up with a win tonight from Levi’s Stadium. If he and Seattle win tonight, no one can say anything about Darnold not being able to win the big one.

Maye is second youngest QB to start Super Bowl
Drake Maye is on the verge of bringing the Patriots their seventh Super Bowl title in just his second year in the NFL. What he has already done in the first two years is special, and if he wins the game today, he´ll become the youngest quarterback to lead his team to the Super Bowl. He´s the second youngest quarterback to ever make the Super Bowl as a starter behind Dan Marino. If the Pats win Super Bowl LX, Maye would make NFL history in a season he finished second in the MVP voting.
Pats the best road team ever
The Patirots have done something that no team in history has ever done. They went 9-0 on the road this season. Their three losses all came at home, but they were perfect on the road. They won 8 games away from Gillette Stadium in the regular season, and had to play one on the road in the playoffs. The win on the road in Denver in the NFC Championship turned the 2025 Patriots into the only team in the history of the league to go 9-0 on the road. There have been other undefeated teams on the road, but no team had ever gone 9-0.

Coco Jones honored a Super Bowl legend
When Jones took the field to perform “Lift Every Voice and Sing” during the Super Bowl LX pregame, she was wearing a custom Japanese nylon tracksuit designed by stylist Sankara Xasha Turé, a nod to Whitney Houston's iconic 1991 Super Bowl XXV performance. Houston famously sang the national anthem in a Le Coq Sportif tracksuit at the start of the Gulf War, a moment that uplifted the country and later raised funds for charity through record sales.
Thirty-five years later, Jones continues that legacy, blending history, fashion, and meaning. Her all-white look features her name and “Super Bowl 2026” across the back, highlighting the cultural weight of the moment as she performed the Black national anthem at Super Bowl LX.

The Power Plant theory
Super Bowl LX is being played in Levi's Stadium. While the city is beautiful and the venue is great, there has been speculation raising over the growing injury problem that the San Francisco 49ers have been dealing with over the last few seasons. A theory that came out sometime late this season after the Niners saw Nick Bosa and Fred Warner get injured for the season and Brock Purdy miss a lengthy part of the season with turf toe. The theory suggests that an electrical plant next to Levi’s Stadium and the practice facility might have something to do with the plague of injuries the Niners have been dealing with. Now the Super Bowl is being played right across the the street from the electrical plant, and both teams will have to cross their fingers that their guys stay healthy throughout the final four quarters of the season.

QB salaries
The disparity in quarterback salaries is a pretty heavy one considering Drake Maye is still on a rookie contract. After a long and adventurous journey around the NFL, Sam Darnold got a big pay day last offseason. His season with the Vikings put him on the map, and increased his worth as he entered the free agent market. The Seahawks signed him to a three year deal worth $100.5 million. Drake Maye on the other hand, is on his rookie deal still, after getting picked 2nd overall he got a four year deal worth $36.64 million.

Patirots color origins
The red white and blue of the of the Patriots is obviously a nod to the historical importance of New England in the American Revolution. The patriots from back them fought for their freedom from the English. The red white and blue represents the patriotism not just from those who fought three centuries ago, but for the American pride in the New England area.

Seahawks color origins
The Seahawks have one of the sweetest uniforms in the NFL. They had a makeover of their jerseys from the old school silver helmets with the blue or green jerseys. Now its a much sleeker, much more modern looks with the blue helmets and the green numbers. Seattle incorporated that color scheme to pay homage to the Pacific Northwest's landscape.

The Patriots mascot is very adequately named Pat. He's a Patriot that is dressed in red white and blue, and is supposed to look like the logo on the New England players helmets. Patriots Super Bowl history
The Pats are the winningest team in the history of the NFL. They have six Lombardi Trophies in the trophy case at Gillette Stadium. They have played in 11 Super Bowls, with today's being their 12th. Before the Brady-Belichick era, they go to two but lost both of those, in 1986 to the Bears and 1997 to the Green Bay Packers. Then they won three in five years, starting in 2002 with their win over the St. Louis Rams, but didn’t win again until a decade later. They got to two Super Bowls in that time but were beat by the Giants on both occasions. Brady and the Pats bounced back and won it in 2015 with the Malcom Butler interception to down the Seahawks, led the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history over the Atlanta Falcons in 2017. The Pats went to two more Super Bowls in the next two years, losing to Philly and then beating the Rams in Brady’s last game as a Patriot.

Belichick´s history
The Patriots are awfully close to getting back to somewhere they became very familiar with for the first 20 years of this century. A large part of the credit goes to Bill Belichick, who will certainly be watching this game after being left off the Hall of Fame list as a first ballot candidate. Belichick has more Super Bowl wins than coach in history with six, and went 333-178 in his coaching career. His 333 wins are 2nd most in NFL History, which is 14 behind Don Shula record of 347. Belichick is now coaching at the University of North Carolina where he had a less than stellar first season at Chapel Hill. Most recently Belichick was somehow not voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility.

The Pats won that game 31-0 and won 6 of the first 8 match ups but since then the Seahawks took control wining the next five. Since the turn of the century New England has won three and Seattle has won four, with the last one coming in an overtime game last season. The most important one, however was won by New England back in the 2015 Super Bowl, so the Seahawks will be looking for some revenge here tonight.

Special Special teams
As is so often is the case in these games, special teams can sometimes make or break you. Whether it's a field goal at the last second, or a kick off return or a muffed punt, special teams can be the difference, The Seahawks return game has been sensational since they brought in Rashid Shaheed from New Orleans. He´s taken back two kicks for TDs, one against the Niners in the Divisional Round on the opening play of the game. The Patriots have always had great kickers and that’s exactly the case this year with Andy Borregales. He was 27/32 in the regular season and he’s gone 3-4 in the playoffs with his only miss coming in the snow in Denver.

Points are plentiful
The Patriots offense, led by Drake Maye and Josh McDaniel, was one of the top units in the league this year after being a dreadful offensive side last year. A few key additions and a beefed up offensive line made a huge difference in New England and they were the second highest scoring team this season putting up 28.8 points per game and the third most yards per game, at 379 yards an outing. The Seahawks also put up great numbers on the offensive end during the regular season averaging 351 yards per game, which was 8th best and they scored 28.4 points per game which was third, behind the Rams and the Patriots.

Chess match on the sidelines
Mike MacDonald is in just his second year as coach of the Seahawks. He was the defensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens for a couple of years, before heading to Seattle and turning that defense into one of the stingiest in the league. Now he is a win away from his first Super Bowl in just his second season in Seattle. The Pats are led by a former hometown hero in New England, Mike Vrable. Vrable spent the first part of his coaching career with the Tennessee Titans who let him go after leading them to a couple of playoff runs and an AFC Championship appearance. The Patriots were quick to come calling when he was ready to return to the sidelines and he has brought an toughness and an attitude to this team that has turned New England into a championship contender again.

QB vs QB mano a mano
These two QBs are in very different stages of their careers, but they have exploded on to the scene in the last two years. Sam Darnold was in a similar position as Drake Maye when he came into the league. A high draft pick that went to a bad team, but unlike, Maye that the New York Jets stayed bad. He lost his job, and eventually moved to Carolina, and then San Francisco to back up Brock Purdy. The Vikings signed him and the rest is history. He led that team to a 15-2 record and had a career year. Then Seattle signed him and he had another solid year tossing for 4,048 yards, 25 TDs and 14 INTs. Maye is in just his second year, and after showing signs of brilliance in his rookie season he propelled himself into the MVP conversation, leading the league in passer rating (113.5) and in completion percentage (72%), while throwing for 4,398 yards and 31 TDs with just 8 INTs.

How they got here: Seahawks
The Seahawks went out on a limb and signed Sam Darnold after his fantastic season in Minnesota last year. He joined a team that was already building something under coach Mike MacDonald who led them to a 10-7 season in his first year. Led by their dominant defense the Seahawks had an even better season this year. They would lose their first game to San Francisco but find a little rhythm after that, winning three in a row until losing to the Tampa Bay Bucs in Week 5. Their last loss of the season came in Week 11, to the LA Rams, but they would avenge that loss with an OT win over LA in Week 16, and then win the one seed in the final game of the season against the Niners. They would play the Niners in the Divisional Round after their BYE, and beat them 41-6, and then met the Rams in the NFC Championship, and punched their ticket to the Super Bowl

How they got here: Patriots
The New England Patriots weren't supposed to be here. They had a dreadful year last year and made a change on the sideline after just one season with Jerod Mayo. Mike Vrable came in and immediately changed the culture in New England. He brought Josh McDaniels back to run the offense and take Drake Maye under his wing, and the second year QB just missed out on winning the MVP. The Vrable era started off a little shaky with a loss to the Las Vegas Raiders in Week 1 and then the Steelers in Week 3, but they beat the Bills in Buffalo to give a warning shot to the rest of the league. They would rattle off 10 straight wins after their loss to Pittsburgh before dropping their first game of the season, this time against the Bills in New England. The Pats won their final three games of the regular season, but had to settle for the two seed in the AFC. They beat the Chargers as the defense suffocated the LA offense. Then forced four INTs on CJ Stroud in the Divisional Round and then narrowly beat Denver to make the Super Bowl in Vrables first year as coach and Maye´s second year as QB.

Last game: Seahawks
The Seahawks were the one seed in the NFC so they earned the right to host the NFC Championship at Lumen Field. They took on the LA Rams for a third time this season and won the all important rubber match. It was a shootout from Seattle as Matt Stafford and the Rams gave Sam Darnold and the Seahawks all they could handle. Seattle scored an early TD to take a lead they hung on to for most of the first half, but the Rams took a 13-10 lead with under 2:00 to go. Seattle would strike back before the break, scoring a TD on a Darnold pass to Jaxson Smith-Njigba. That would spur a wild third quarter that saw both teams score two TDs each. Darnold would hit Bobo and Cooper Kupp with TDs, and Stafford answered back with TDs to Adams and Nacua. The defense would hold strong for Seattle late in the game stopping the Rams on 4th and 4 from the SEA 6, and keep LA off the board the rest of the way. Cooper Kupp essentially closed out the game with a third down conversion to bury his old team.

Last game: Patriots
The Patriots had to go the one seed´s house to reach the Super Bowl after they got the 2 seed in the AFC, and went up against a Denver Broncos team that was without their starting quarterback. They had to rely on back up QB Jarrett Stidham in a game that was blanketed by snow. Drake Maye and the Patriots weren't incredible by any means, but they did just enough to get by Denver after the Broncos got an early touchdown on a bomb from Stidham to Courtland Sutton. Drake Maye would tie the game up with a 6 yard TD scramble just before the halftime break and Andy Borregales hit a field goal to take a 10-7 lead which would be the game winning score as the snow made putting points on the board nearly impossible for the rest of the game.

Bad Bunny divides the NFL
The NFL is back at the centre of the culture wars ahead of the Super Bowl. An anonymous player survey by The Athletic found the league split over Bad Bunny headlining the halftime show, with 58.6 percent in favour and 41.4 percent opposed. The result highlights a broader tension between the NFL's global ambitions and more traditional views within its own locker rooms.

Mack Hollins, barefoot as usual
New England Patriots wide receiver Mack Hollins has become almost as talked about off the field as he is on it, thanks to a string of quirky personal habits that have captured NFL fans' attention.
Hollins often walks around barefoot, even in cold weather, a practice he says began after working with trainers who emphasized “getting back to your original ways of movement.” He’s been known to show up to team facilities and stadiums without shoes (or even a shirt in snowy conditions), and he insists the barefoot life benefits his body and mindset.
Beyond his feet, Hollins embraces other unconventional choices, like eating without utensils, avoiding vegetables, playing chess, and sharing creative tips and experiments on social media. Teammates and fans alike see his individuality and exuberance as part of what makes him such a memorable presence in the league.

Maye chases history as one of the youngest QBs in Super Bowl lore
When the 2026 Super Bowl kicks off, Patriots quarterback Drake Maye will be aiming not just for a championship, but NFL history.
At 23 years and 162 days old, Maye will be the second-youngest quarterback to start a Super Bowl in league history. The only player younger was Hall of Famer Dan Marino, who started for the Miami Dolphins in Super Bowl XIX at 23 years, 127 days old in January 1985. They lost to 49ers, 16-38.
But Maye's story could get even more remarkable. If he leads the Patriots to a win, he would become the youngest quarterback ever to win a Super Bowl as a starter.
The current record holder is Ben Roethlisberger, who guided the Pittsburgh Steelers to victory in Super Bowl XL in February 2006 at 23 years, 340 days old, a mark that still stands today.
The Super Bowl halftime show has become a huge event over the years. What started as university marching bands has evolved into a mini concert that has some viewers tuning into the game solely to watch it.

Super Bowl LX is not shying away from uncomfortable topics
From the opening act and halftime performer being openly anti-ICE to an ad about the Epstein survivors, this Super Bowl isn't afraid to bring up politically and socially charged issues. Instead, it is directly engaging with them.
Survivors of the sexual abuse committed by Jeffrey Epstein released an advertisement on Super Bowl Sunday calling for greater transparency and truth about the extensive Epstein files. The video, described as a public service announcement rather than a typical commercial, features survivors holding photos of themselves from when they were abused and emphasizes that millions of documents remain unreleased. It urges viewers to “stand with us” and to pressure officials, including U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi, to release the full contents of the files. The timing leverages the massive audience around the Super Bowl to elevate their message and insist on accountability and openness from authorities.

On Friday, Brady publicly backed the Patriots on Instagram, telling owner Robert Kraft to “get that seventh ring.” His initial comments had been criticised by former teammates including Vince Wilfork and Rob Gronkowski, as Brady faced pressure balancing neutrality in his broadcasting role with his Patriots legacy.

We bring you the lowdown on tonight's venue for Seattle vs New England.
The most recent meeting between the Patriots and the Seahawks…
Super Bowl LX between the Patriots and Seahawks is a rematch from 11 years ago, when the Seahawks nearly had the win before Russell Wilson's fateful interception at the 1-yard line. But it’s been a while since then and these two teams have met a bit more recently. Here’s how that went down.
The Patriots and Seahawks last met in the 2024 regular season, on September 15, 2024, and it was a thriller that went into overtime. In that game, the Seahawks beat the Patriots 23–20 in OT, with Jason Myers kicking the winning field goal after a back-and-forth contest at Gillette Stadium.
That September matchup was the first time these teams had faced each other since the 2016 regular season, and it continued a recent trend of Seattle having the upper hand. The Seahawks have won most of the meetings over the last decade outside of New England’s dramatic Super Bowl XLIX victory over Seattle in 2015.
So while Super Bowl LX feels like a big throwback to that classic 2015 Super Bowl, the most recent on-field evidence favors the Seahawks in this rivalry.
The NFL has cracked down on their celebrations rules in recent years. Here are the gestures that will result in what could be a game-defining penalty.
Tonight's Super Bowl flyover is going to be potent.
Has any team ever failed to score in a Super Bowl?
No team has reached the Super Bowl and been shut out. However, two teams have been limited to just a single field goal, finishing with only three points.
In Super Bowl VI, played on January 16, 1972, the Miami Dolphins were held to three points in a 24–3 loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Garo Yepremian accounted for Miami's lone score with a field goal.
The same low total was matched decades later in Super Bowl LIII on February 3, 2019, when the Los Angeles Rams managed just three points in a 13–3 defeat to the New England Patriots. Greg Zuerlein kicked the Rams’ only points in what became the lowest-scoring Super Bowl in history, with a combined total of 16 points.
The Rams returned to the Super Bowl three years later and won Super Bowl LVI, beating the Bengals 23–20. By then, Zuerlein had left the team, and Matt Gay handled kicking duties in their championship victory.

Bad Bunny's halftime show brings historic first in LSPR
Super Bowl LX’s halftime show, headlined by Bad Bunny, will feature a historic first: the inclusion of Puerto Rican Sign Language (LSPR) during part of the performance.
Interpreter Celimar Rivera Cosme, a deaf performer from Puerto Rico, will bring Bad Bunny’s show to life in LSPR, a sign language distinct from American Sign Language with its own grammar, rhythm and cultural identity.
The NFL says this multilingual signing program, which also includes ASL interpreters, will be presented during the halftime show, marking the first time Puerto Rican Sign Language is featured at the Super Bowl on this stage.
Rivera Cosme has worked with Bad Bunny before, including signing performances during his major concerts in Puerto Rico, and her role this Sunday is seen as a milestone moment for Deaf culture and representation on one of the world’s biggest entertainment platforms.

Pre-game singing
Before the Seahawks and Patriots take the field, there’s a stacked musical lineup ready to set the tone for Super Bowl LX.
“The Star-Spangled Banner” will be performed by Charlie Puth, the pop singer and songwriter known for hits like “See You Again” and “Attention”. Alongside him, Fred Beam, a deaf performing artist, will deliver the anthem in American Sign Language.
“America the Beautiful” will be sung by Brandi Carlile, an 11-time Grammy winner and critically acclaimed singer-songwriter whose powerful voice spans Americana, folk, and rock. Julian Ortiz will provide a signed rendition of the song.
“Lift Every Voice and Sing”, often referred to as the Black national anthem, will be performed by Coco Jones, the rising R&B star. Fred Beam will also provide an ASL performance of this piece, deepening the event’s spotlight on accessibility and representation.
Green Day will play ahead of kickoff to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Super Bowl, bringing hometown Bay Area energy before the game begins.
Together, the lineup reflects both musical heritage and broad cultural representation as the day’s festivities begin across NBC, Telemundo and Peacock.
Who is doing the Super Bowl flyover
Eyes to the sky before kickoff at Levi's Stadium. In celebration of America’s 250th anniversary, Super Bowl LX will feature a joint Air Force–Navy flyover made up of eight military aircraft - four from each branch - combining classic power with next-generation tech.
From the U.S. Air Force, the formation includes:
Two B-1B Lancer bombers: the supersonic “Bone,” known for its massive wingspan and unmistakable silhouette
Two F-15C Eagles: long-time air-superiority fighters and absolute flyover staples
From the U.S. Navy, fans will see:
Two F/A-18E Super Hornets: versatile, loud, and built for both air and ground missions
Two F-35C Lightning II jets: the carrier-based stealth fighters representing the future of naval aviation
Eight aircraft, two branches, and one perfectly timed pass over the stadium as the anthem concludes one of the most anticipated non-football moments of Super Bowl Sunday.
Why does the Super Bowl use Roman numerals?
Tonight is Super Bowl LX, the NFL’s 60th championship game. That raises a familiar question: why does the league insist on Roman numerals for the official name of its biggest event?
It is not as if players are numbered Roman-style, or scores are displayed the way a Roman legionnaire might expect. Yet every year, the Super Bowl carries a Roman numeral rather than a simple date.
The answer starts with why the game is numbered at all. Unlike most sporting events, the Super Bowl is played in the year after the season it belongs to. The regular season runs through the fall and early winter, while the postseason and Super Bowl are held in January and February. So Super Bowl LX, played in 2026, is the culmination of the 2025 NFL season.
When the National Football League and the American Football League agreed to merge and stage a postseason championship game, they decided to number it rather than name it by year, avoiding confusion between seasons. The first four Super Bowls were originally labeled simply Super Bowl 1, 2, 3 and 4.
That changed with Super Bowl V, when the league switched to Roman numerals. The NFL later retroactively applied Roman numerals to the first four games as well.
The league has never fully explained the decision, but NFL officials have long suggested it added a sense of gravity and occasion. Put simply, it looked more important.
That focus on presentation was evident ahead of Super Bowl 50, when the NFL tested dozens of logo designs before ultimately abandoning Roman numerals for that one year only. The league cited readability and branding concerns, though many suspected it was also a way to avoid the awkward optics of “Super Bowl L.” Nobody wants to take the L...
For everything else, however, the Roman numerals have remained — and tonight’s game is no exception.
The coaches of Super Bowl LX
Sunday's Super Bowl matchup also sets up a compelling coaching narrative.
On one sideline is Mike Vrabel, who is making his first Super Bowl appearance as a head coach, and in his very first season with the Patriots. Vrabel was introduced as New England’s head coach in January 2025 and immediately turned around a franchise that had gone 4-13 the previous two seasons. Under his leadership, the Patriots finished 14–3, won the AFC East, and punched their ticket to Super Bowl LX in dramatic fashion.
Vrabel’s legacy with the Patriots runs deep. As a player, he won three Super Bowls with New England in the early 2000s, and now he’s on the brink of becoming one of the few people in NFL history to win a Super Bowl with the same franchise as both a player and a coach.
Seahawks coach
Across the field is Mike Macdonald, the 38-year-old head coach of the Seattle Seahawks, who is also making his first Super Bowl appearance. Macdonald’s rise has been quick. He was one of the youngest head coaches in the league and is now one of only a handful to reach the Super Bowl before age 40. His Seahawks team blends experience and innovation, driven by a strong defense and steady quarterback play.
It’s a fascinating contrast. Vrabel’s first season in Foxborough has already made history, while Macdonald’s youth and defensive acumen have redefined Seattle’s identity. Both coaches will get their chance to claim football’s biggest prize.
The Vince Lombardi Trophy isn't just the award given to the Super Bowl champion - it’s the most iconic symbol in the NFL, linking generations of players, coaches, and fans to the rich history of American football.

How many Super Bowls have been played up north?
Following on from the most popular venues for the Super Bowl, what's clear is that where it is NOT popular to organise Super Bowls is anywhere up north, which kind of makes sense, given the time of year, but it’s still incredible just how few games are held away from the balmy south.
Only FIVE Super Bowls have been held north of the Mason-Dixon line: two in Minneapolis, two in Detroit and one in New Jersey.
What's the most common Super Bowl venue?
Super Bowl LX heads to Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, marking just the second time the venue has hosted the big game. Its first came a decade ago, when it hosted Super Bowl 50 in February 2016.
So while Levi’s Stadium is still a relative newcomer in Super Bowl history, the title of most common Super Bowl venue belongs elsewhere. That honor goes to Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens, Florida, which has hosted the Super Bowl six times, more than any other stadium.
Those six games came under several different names:
Joe Robbie Stadium: Super Bowls XXIII, XXIX
Pro Player Stadium: Super Bowl XXXIII
Dolphin Stadium: Super Bowl XLI
Sun Life Stadium: Super Bowl XLIV
Hard Rock Stadium: Super Bowl LIV
When you look at city hosts rather than just stadium hosts, Miami is still the undisputed Super Bowl capital. Including five games played at the old Orange Bowl, the Miami area has hosted the Super Bowl 11 times in total.
After Miami, New Orleans sits close behind with 10 Super Bowls, split between Tulane Stadium and the Louisiana Superdome (now the Caesars Superdome).
Rounding out the most frequent host cities:
Los Angeles, California: 8 Super Bowls (Coliseum, Rose Bowl, SoFi Stadium)
Tampa, Florida: 5 Super Bowls (Tampa Stadium/Raymond James Stadium)
San Diego, California: 3 Super Bowls (Jack Murphy/Qualcomm Stadium)
Which teams have won the most Super Bowls?
The list is headed jointly by the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New England Patriots, each with six Super Bowl titles. Just behind them are the San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys, who each have five championships.
The Green Bay Packers and the Kansas City Chiefs are next on the list with four Super Bowl wins apiece.
Most Super Bowl titles by franchise
Pittsburgh Steelers: 6 (IX, X, XIII, XIV, XL, XLIII)
New England Patriots: 6 (XXXVI, XXXVIII, XXXIX, XLIX, LI, LIII)
San Francisco 49ers: 5 (XVI, XIX, XXIII, XXIV, XXIX)
Dallas Cowboys: 5 (VI, XII, XXVII, XXVIII, XXX)
Green Bay Packers: 4 (I, II, XXXI, XLV)
Kansas City Chiefs: 4 (IV, LIV, LVII, LVIII)
How many teams have won back-to-back Super Bowls?
Repeating as Super Bowl champions is one of the hardest feats in the NFL. Only seven franchises have managed it. Neither of the two teams are up for that tonight, with last year's winners the Eagles being knocked out in the Wild Card Round by the 49ers.
Green Bay Packers
The first team to do it, winning Super Bowl I (1967) and Super Bowl II (1968) under legendary head coach Vince Lombardi, whose impact on the game was so profound the trophy now bears his name.
Miami Dolphins
Champions of Super Bowl VII (1973) and Super Bowl VIII (1974). Their run included the NFL’s only perfect season, going 17–0 during the 1972 campaign before winning Super Bowl VII.
Pittsburgh Steelers
The only franchise to repeat the feat twice. They won Super Bowl IX (1975) and X (1976), then did it again with Super Bowl XIII (1979) and XIV (1980), cementing their dynasty status.
San Francisco 49ers
Back-to-back titles in Super Bowl XXIII (1989) and XXIV (1990), led by quarterback Joe Montana, whose performances remain among the best in Super Bowl history.
Dallas Cowboys
Victors in Super Bowl XXVII (1993) and XXVIII (1994), dominating the early 1990s behind the core of Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith and Michael Irvin.
Denver Broncos
Won Super Bowl XXXII (1998) and XXXIII (1999) with John Elway, finally breaking through after losing four previous Super Bowl appearances.
New England Patriots
Champions of Super Bowl XXXVIII (2004) and XXXIX (2005), part of their early-2000s dominance under Bill Belichick with Tom Brady at quarterback. The Patriots popped a statue of Brady up outside their stadium (see photo).
Who scored the first ever Super Bowl touchdown?
A bit more on the first player to score a touchdown in a Super Bowl: Max McGee of the Green Bay Packers.
McGee was a reserve wide receiver, pressed into action after Boyd Dowler was injured early in an 80-yard drive. On the touchdown play, he made a one-handed catch at the 23-yard line from quarterback Bart Starr, then turned upfield for a 37-yard score.
McGee added another touchdown late in the third quarter, hauling in a 13-yard pass to extend Green Bay's lead to 28–10. He finished the game with seven receptions for 138 yards. The Packers went on to defeat the Kansas City Chiefs 35–10.
Born in Saxon City, Nevada, in 1932, McGee played both end and punter. He joined Green Bay as a fifth-round pick in the 1954 draft and appeared that season, then missed 1955 and 1956 while serving as a pilot in the U.S. Air Force. McGee returned in 1957 and played with the Packers through 1967, appearing in the first two Super Bowls.
For the inaugural Super Bowl, McGee did not expect to see the field, as Dowler had returned from injury. He famously broke curfew the night before and spent the evening out. Hungover the next morning, McGee joked to Dowler before kickoff, “I hope you don’t get hurt. I’m not in very good shape.” Dowler injured his shoulder on the second drive, and after borrowing a teammate’s helmet because he had forgotten his own, McGee entered the game and made history.
Who won the First Super Bowl?
The first Super Bowl was won by the Green Bay Packers, who, under head coach Vince Lombardi, faced the Kansas City Chiefs at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on January 15, 1967. Green Bay cruised to a 35–10 victory.
The Packers entered as favorites, a reflection of their NFL championship titles in 1961, 1962 and 1965. Quarterback Bart Starr ran the offense with trademark precision, completing 16 of 23 passes for 250 yards and two touchdowns. His performance earned him the game's Most Valuable Player award.
Defensively, Green Bay was just as dominant, holding the Chiefs to 10 points. Kansas City, after a strong start, scored only once in the second quarter. Chiefs quarterback Len Dawson struggled against the Packers’ defense and threw an interception.
Green Bay’s offense was well balanced. Max McGee caught seven passes for 138 yards and two touchdowns, despite not expecting to play a major role. In fact, he was famously somewhat hungover, yet still made history as the first player to score a touchdown in a Super Bowl. The rushing attack was led by Elijah Pitts, who added two touchdowns on the ground.
The 35–10 final score underlined Green Bay’s superiority on both sides of the ball, sealing their place as worthy winners of the first Super Bowl.
Why is it called the Super Bowl, anyway?
In June 1966, the two major American football leagues, the American Football League and the National Football League, agreed to merge. As part of that deal, they decided the champions of each league would meet in a season-ending championship game.
That raised an obvious question: what to call it?
At the time, “bowl games” were associated with postseason college football, a term that traced back to the Rose Bowl stadium, the site of the first such games. But a “bowl” was not what the NFL initially had in mind.
Commissioner Pete Rozelle pushed for “The Big One,” though the name never caught on. He also floated “Pro Bowl,” but that was already used for the league’s all-star game. “World Series of Football” was briefly mentioned, then quickly discarded for sounding too much like baseball’s championship.
In the end, Rozelle settled on the rather clunky official title: The AFL-NFL World Championship Game.
That was the formal name of the first championship, but team owners were still searching for something catchier. During an owners’ meeting, Lamar Hunt, founder of the AFL and owner of the Kansas City Chiefs, recalled a toy his son, Lamar Hunt Jr., had been playing with. It was called a Super Ball.
Hunt suggested, almost offhandedly, that the game could be called the “Super Bowl.” He immediately dismissed it, saying they could surely come up with something better. But the name stuck. Media outlets embraced it, fans loved it, and before long it became the standard.
And that is why tonight’s game is known as Super Bowl LX, not the AFL-NFL World Championship Game LX.
The Super Ball was an extremely bouncy rubber ball invented in 1964 by chemist Norman Stingley at the Bettis Rubber Company. Made from a synthetic rubber called Zectron, it was later licensed to Wham-O, where it became a huge commercial success.
Vrabel is leaving nothing to chance ahead of the Super Bowl, and has been spinning Bad Bunny songs to his players to prepare them for the conditions inside Levi's Stadium.
“The players remained in the locker room for 14 minutes while Bad Bunny songs played over the stadium's loudspeakers.”

Battle of the QBs: Maye vs Darnold - youth meets experience
Patriots QB Drake Maye turned in one of the best statistical seasons in the NFL in 2025. He finished the regular year with 4,394 passing yards, 31 touchdowns and just 8 interceptions, completing 72% of his passes and posting a high passer rating, all while leading New England to a dominant 14-3 record. Maye was even a finalist for MVP, finishing just behind the league leader in voting.
The sophomore signal‑caller has thrived attacking downfield, generating big plays and sustaining strong efficiency even against top defenses, a key reason the Patriots offense ranks among the league's most potent.
The Seahawks Sam Darnold’s journey has been far less conventional. After years of questions earlier in his career, Darnold revived his game in Seattle and has been extremely efficient through the playoffs. In the postseason alone he’s completed a high percentage of his throws with multiple touchdowns and few turnovers, showing poise as Seattle surged to the NFC title.
Statistically, Maye outpaced Darnold across the regular season in yards, touchdowns, efficiency and overall rating, which is why the Patriots quarterback entered MVP conversations. But Darnold’s late‑season and playoff surge gives the Seahawks a steady hand in crunch time.
So today isn’t just about who throws better. It will be a battle between Maye’s elite efficiency/big‑play ability versus Darnold’s postseason precision and experienced instincts.
Who is performing at the Super Bowl LX Halftime Show?
Bad Bunny will top the bill at the Apple Music Super Bowl LX Halftime Show, with the global superstar and reigning Grammy Album of the Year winner set to take center stage.
The NFL has lined up an extensive pregame program as well. Teddy Swims will headline the Super Bowl tailgate concert, with LaRussell opening the show. Green Day will kick off the opening ceremony, while Charlie Puth is scheduled to perform the national anthem. Brandi Carlile will deliver “America the Beautiful,” and Coco Jones will sing “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”
The performances form part of the league's celebration marking the 60th Super Bowl.
Our man Roddy takes a look at why we had to wait two weeks from the Conference finals till the big game tonight.
Why the Patriots are the “home” team tonight
Way back at the start of the Super Bowl era the NFL decided that the “home team” at the Super Bowl would alternate by conference, rather than by record or location. The rule was set by the NFL Competition Committee to simplify logistics and keep things neutral.
For even-numbered Super Bowls, the AFC champion is the designated home team. For odd-numbered Super Bowls, it is the NFC champion.
The home team chooses its jersey color (New England have opted for navy today), they take the “home” sideline and are listed second on broadcasts and graphics
So despite being played in California, this is officially Seattle Seahawks vs New England Patriots, with the Patriots as the home team.
And yes, it has led to a team playing as the away team in their own stadium. The Los Angeles Rams were the away team in Super Bowl LVI in 2022 at the SoFi Stadium.
How the teams got to the Super Bowl
Seattle Seahawks
Seattle finished the 2025 regular season 14-3 and clinched the No. 1 seed in the NFC, earning a first-round bye. In the playoffs they dominated the San Francisco 49ers 41–6 in the Divisional Round and then beat the Los Angeles Rams 31–27 in the NFC Championship to reach the Super Bowl for the first time since 2015.
New England Patriots
New England also went 14-3 and secured the No. 2 seed in the AFC. They opened the postseason with a 16–3 win over the Los Angeles Chargers in the Wild Card round, followed by a 28–16 victory over the Houston Texans in the Divisional Round. In the AFC Championship Game the Patriots defeated the Denver Broncos 10–7 in snowy conditions to book their trip to Super Bowl LX, marking their 12th Super Bowl appearance in franchise history.
What’s the weather going to be like for the Super Bowl?
Weather conditions are looking good for the Super Bowl, with afternoon highs of 67 °F and Late-day temperatures during kickoff and early evening should be in the mid-60s to low 50s °F. There is a tiny chance of rain.
Welcome to Super Bowl LX
Good morning and welcome to Santa Clara, California, where this evening the National Football Conference champion the Seattle Seahawks will take on the American Football Conference champion the New England Patriots. Kick off is at 6.30 p.m. ET.
The Seahawks are out to claim their second Super Bowl title in four appearances, with their last triumph coming in Super Bowl XLVIII in 2013 when they destroyed the Denver Broncos 43-8.

The two teams met in Super Bowl XLIX in 2015, with the Patriots coming out on top 28-24 after a fourth quarter comeback from the Patriots and Malcolm Butler's game winning interception.
