Select NFL season 2022 games to be announced early from May 9-12
The NFL schedule release continues this week, with a number of select games being announced ahead of the full schedule publication on the evening of May 12.
The NFL will announce the teams, times and dates for four ‘select’ games in the 2022 schedule from Monday, May 9 through Thursday May 12. The full NFL schedule will be released on the evening of Thursday, May 12, at 8pm ET.
Exactly what ‘select’ games have been chosen for the early release has not been confirmed, but these are expected to be highlight match-ups. The actual announcements will fall to the NFL’s broadcast partners, with the early games release schedule as follows:
Monday, May 9: ESPN announcement during Good Morning America (7am - 9am)
Tuesday, May 10: CBS announcement during CBS Mornings (7am - 9am)
Wednesday, May 11: FOX announcement during FOX & Friends (6am - 9am)
Thursday, May 12: NBC announcement during Today Show (7am - 11am)
International NFL games already announced
The NFL is going for an extended schedule release this year, with the international games having been announced back on May 4th. There are five games being played outside the US this year with the details for each of them already announced.
Sunday, October 2 - New Orleans Saints vs Minnesota Vikings in London at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
Sunday, October 9 - Green Bay Packers vs New York Giants in London at at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
Sunday, October 30 - Jacksonville Jaguars vs Denver Broncos in London at Wembley Stadium
Sunday, November 13 - Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs Seattle Seahawks in Munich at Allianza Stadium
Monday, November 21 - Arizona Cardinals vs San Francisco 49ers in Mexico City at the Estadio Azteca
Amazon game announced
Another game already confirmed is the Week 2 game on September 15 which sees the Chargers travel to play the Chiefs in an AFC West divisional matchup. That was announced early on April 28 as part of the new tie-up between the NFL and Amazon, with the game, along with another 14 Thursday Night Football games, being broadcast on Prime Video to Amazon customers with a Prime membership.
Full NFL schedule release
The NFL will announce the full schedule of games on Thursday, May 12 starting at 8pm ET. Note however that each franchise is permitted to announce their first home opponent from 6 pm.
The 2022 regular season opens on Thursday, September 8 and closes with week 18, on January 8, 2023. The season finishes with Super Bowl LVII on February 12, at State Farm Stadium in Phoenix.
Thursday night season opener
One thing we do know is that reigning Super Bowl champions the LA Rams will be hosting the opening game of the season on Thursday, September 8. They’ll be playing one of the Seahawks, 49ers, Cardinals, Panthers, Falcons, Cowboys, Raiders, Broncos or Bills.
