Update:

Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Shedeur Sanders was asked about comments made by teammate Dillon Gabriel last weekend.

During a preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles last week, Gabriel told CBS Sports: “There’s entertainers and there’s competitors," with some taking that as a dig at Sanders. However Sanders revealed that Gabriel had approached him to say that the comments were not aimed at him.

“Honestly, I don’t even think about nothing. I don’t think about anything,” Sanders said Thursday. “If it’s not words or anything at this point, it can’t do anything to me.”

“I know that God put the ability and the power within me to not even think about nobody else’s comments, not care. It is what it is. I spoke with him. He told me on the plane. He came up, he was like, ‘Nah bro, that wasn’t at you.’ ... I’m not tripping, regardless of whatever it was. Nobody’s words or anything affects me.”

However later in the conversation, Sanders sounded less sure about Gabriel’s version of events. He was asked if he believed Gabriel and replied: “Do I feel like he did? I don’t know. And that’s not on me to sit here and be like, ‘Oh, he did; he didn’t.’ That’s not going to change my life in any way.”

Regardless, neither rookie quarterback will be starting for the Browns in the regular season opener against the Cincinnati Bengals. Instead, veteran QB Joe Flacco will take the first snaps as he begins his 18th season in the NFL.

“Joe’s the same guy that he was then,” head coach Kevin Stefanski said, speaking of Flacco’s Super Bowl triumph in 2008. “He’s the same guy every single day.”

“I think that’s one of the things you admire about Joe is how he approaches his business. He’s done a really nice job in camp. He’s also done a really nice job just providing leadership to the quarterback room, to the offense and to the football team.”
