Steelers - Bills weather report: Will it snow in the Wild Card game in Buffalo?

As is always the case when the Bills make the playoffs, there is going to be adverse weather. The question now is, just how bad will it get?

Given the time of year, it’s no surprise that it’s cold in Buffalo, but it would be fair to say that between the snow and the wind, this weekend’s Wild Card clash between the Bills and Steelers will see particularly frigid conditions.

Bills vs Steelers is going to be a cold contest

With the weather forecast for Sunday looking especially bleak, one has to wonder just how much of an effect the conditions will have, on the outcome of the NFL Wild Card Round game between the Buffalo Bills and Pittsburgh Steelers. Indeed, there have even been reports suggesting that the game could be moved to the Cleveland Browns’ stadium, however, the Steelers have since indicated that they’ve received no such news. Of course, this isn’t the first time the Bills have had to deal with Mother Nature’s colder side. In November 2022, the team saw a game moved after reports indicated that a Lake Effect snowstorm was due to hit the area.

Ultimately, where ever the game is played the stakes will be high. The Bills come into this one on a high having won their last five games, a feat that saw them clinch the AFC East title. Where the Steelers are concerned, it’s hard not to regard them as a dark horse this postseason. Remember, this is a team that was at rock bottom just a few weeks ago after losses to the Cardinals and Patriots. Even head coach Mike Tomlin referred to his team as ‘fundamentally poor.’ Yet, here the Steelers are in the Wild Card Round. This is all to say that while the temperature on Sunday will surely be freezing, you can expect things on the field the be very hot.

So, what’s the weather for cast for Steelers vs Bills?

Take a look below to see the weather forecast for Sunday’s game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Buffalo Bills

  • Temperature: Mid-20s
  • Precipitation: >75% chance of snow throughout the game
  • Wind: 25 mph sustained westerly winds with gusts up to 45 mph

*Weather forecast taken from the National Weather Service and correct as of 3:30 p.m. ET on Thursday, January 11th.*

To summarize, folks can expect snow and winds throughout the game on Sunday, as a Lake Effect weather pattern blankets the area around Buffalo, New York. To make matters worse, there will also be very high winds and very low temperatures. Now, you might be thinking that it can’t be as bad as what the Chiefs and Browns are expected to face in their game, and you would be right, but the problem is the ‘when.’ According to authorities, the aforementioned conditions are expected to begin on Saturday during the day and continue through the night. To that end, a minimum of 6-12 inches of snow is expected, meaning the Steelers and Bills will have to deal with the chill before they can deal with each other.
