Update:

The last few seasons weren’t Aaron Rodgers’ best, but his situation with the New York Jets wasn’t exactly ideal. The 41-year-old future Hall-of-Famer couldn’t end his legendary career that way, so he signed a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers. It seemed like this would be his last season in the league, but heading into Week 8, things look different.

Rodgers might not be done yet...Steelers reveal their plans

As it turns out, Rodgers’ first season with the Steelers may not be his last. Despite being on a one-year contract and turning 41, the Steelers reportedly want the veteran quarterback to return in 2026.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, Pittsburgh has already made it clear they hope Rodgers remains under center beyond this season after a solid 4-2 start that includes wins over the Jets, Patriots, Vikings, and Browns.

Rodgers, now in his 21st NFL season and playing for his third team, has thrown for 1,270 yards, 14 touchdowns, and five interceptions so far, showing flashes of his old form. After stints with the Packers, where he won four MVPs and a Super Bowl, and later the Jets, Rodgers appears to have found new life in Pittsburgh’s offense.

The Steelers’ interest in bringing him back shows both their belief in his leadership and their desire for stability at quarterback heading into 2026. Behind Rodgers on the Steelers’ depth chart are Mason Rudolph, Will Howard, and Skylar Thompson. And if things keep trending in the right direction, they won’t be picking high enough in the draft to select a new franchise quarterback by next season.

Rodgers’ next test is a highly anticipated Sunday Night Football matchup against his former team, the Packers.
