Steelers 19 vs 24 Browns summary, stats, scores and highlights | NFL Week 12

Winston and the TNF game were eating the snow and celebrating the Browns third win of the season. It may not mean much in terms of playoff hopes, but don't tell that to Jameis or the Browns fans who showed up in frigid snowy temperatures. 

The legend of Jameis continues. He is a genius with the microphone in his hands. He delivered on eating some snow. 

The Browns defense would hold strong and after a terrible punt from Pittsburgh Jameis Winston got the ball back with just over three minutes to go. He would hit Jerry Jeudy for the sixth time on the night with a big 3rd down conversion and that set up this game winning Nick Chubb TD run. Chubb suffered his catastrophic injury against the Steelers last year, so to be back after for this game after returning just a few weeks ago had to mean the world to him. 

Winston ended the night 18/27 for 219 yards and 1 INT, along with his TD run and Chubb had 20 carries for 59 yards and the first and last TD to break the Steelers hearts and snap their five game winning streak. 

It really seemed over when Donte Jackson came up with this interception on a ball that got away from him Winston who really only made this one mistake on the night. It seemed like the Browns were done and dusted having given up the lead and turned it over on back to back possessions, but they kept fighting. 

Three plays after that it was Russell Wilson connecting on this 24 yard strike to Calvin Austin who is quickly becoming his secondary target after George Pickens. The wind was fully in the sails of the Steelers who came storming back to take the lead in a matter of minutes. 

Wilson started the game 10/10 but didn't turn that into points, and they were made to pay at the end of the game. He ended the night 21/28 for 270 yards and 1 TD. Really good numbers considering the conditions, but the Steelers offense as a bit of a problem when they get deep into their opponents territory. 

Just two plays after the Warren TD, it was the Pittsburgh defense, doing what they always do. They came up with a game changing play late, and it looked like it was going to turn the tides in favor of the Steelers. Nick Herbig made the strip sack and it was recovered by Deshon Elliott. 

The Steelers offense finally kicked into gear once it was a two score game, and that was in large part because of the injection of Justin Fields in the offense. He had a 30 yard QB keeper that would eventually set up this Jaylen Warren TD to cut into the lead midway through the 4th quarter. 

The 4th down stop didn't amount to anything and the Steelers would chip into th lead with a field goal on the next possession as the snow got heavier and heavier. After Pittsburgh moved to within four points, Deshaun Watson made a heroic escape out of the pocket and dive into the end zone on 4th and goal to make it a 12 point game after a two point conversion. The Browns were just 1/10 on third down conversions, but went 4/4 on 4th down including some big ones down the stretch. 

The Steelers couldn't do much with the turnover as the offense continued to sputter. They were held on a second 4th down conversion as Warren was taken down short of the marker. The Steeler offense was moving the ball, and they only punted the ball one time all game, but they didn't do much with possession in the first three quarters of the game. 

The Browns were driving to start the half, and Winston looked like he connected to Cedric Tillman but Deshon Elliott made the hit to jar the ball loose and Donte Jackson made the recovery to ignite what would end up being a wild second half. 

As is usually the case in AFC North battles, defense dictates and that was the case on Thursday night. Myles Garrett had three sacks including this strip sack on Russell Wilson which would allow the Browns to stretch their lead to a TD. It was a rumble of two of the best defensive players in the game in TJ Watt and Garrett, but Garrett was the one who ended up having a much bigger impact on the game. 

It was a perfect night of AFC North football in Cleveland as the Brown won a slugfest in the snow thanks to a late touchdown to take the lead with under a minute left. Nick Chubb started the night scoring for the Browns and he ended the night scoring for the Browns as Cleveland rattled off another massive divisional upset. 

The Browns went three and out on their first two drives on a cold and windy night in Cleveland, but Jameis Winston would settle down and start to find his groove thanks to four pass plays to Jerry Jeudy that led the Browns down the field and set up this Nick Chubb TD run from a yard out.

After a huge 3rd down pick up following the illegal touching penalty, Chubb runs it in from a couple yards out and gives the Browns the lead with under a minute to go. 

Chubb breaking a few tackled and he gets 7 yards on a first down run to the right side.

After the penalty it's Winston finding Jeudy on the crossing route to the left side and he reels it in for a gain of 15 and a first down! A delay of game on PIT give PIT an extra five yards.

Play action from Winston and the pressure came right up the middle and he had to get rid of it, but an illegal touching of the pass on CLE backs the Browns up five yards,

That pass got away from Winston who was looking for Moore on the left side but it sailed on him and it was picked by Jackson!! Another big play from the PIT defense!

We knew the defense would eventually come up with a big play, and a few plays after the Warren TD, it's NIck Herbig strip sacking Winston and it was recovered by Elliott on a game changing play midway through the final quarter!

The Steelers punch back with a long drive set up by a long Justin Fields QB keeper that got PIT into Cleveland territory. Wilson came back in and hit a couple passes before Warren punched it in from a couple yards out. 

Reverse for Patterson and he is taken down by Bull for a loss of 2. There was a late unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Delpit who snatched the mouth piece of Pickens' helmet.

This was the fumble on the Browns play that looked like it was going to turn into a big gain. Tillman fumbled it, Elliott forced it and Jackson was there to fall on it.

Garrett got back to Wilson in the backfield and knocked the ball out of the QB's hands to force a fumble and set up a late field goal Dustin Hopkins made to make it a seven point game at half. 

The Browns went three and out in their first two drives, but then they went on a 12 play, 80 yard drive in which Jameis Winson found Jerry Jeudy four times. Nick Chubb punched in the TD from a yard out to take the lead a few plays later. 

Winston has 78 yards on 9/11 passing. 

Wilson started the game 10/10, and he wasn't dinking and dunking his way down the field. He went to Pickens earlier and then found Austin on a deep shot which set up a field goal for the first points of the game!

It might be cold, it might be windy but that didn't stop Russell Wilson. After they marched down the field on the first drive only to see Chris Boswell miss a 58 yard field goal, Wilson found George Pickens with a deep ball down the right side. 

It's a cold, wintery night in Cleveland and that calls for AFC North football. It has looked like AFC North football so far. A lot of defense and lot of running the ball and a handful of sacks courtesy of Myles Garrett who had two sacks and a forced fumble.

Tonight's odds 

With the disparity in records and recent results you would expect this to be a pretty big spread coming into tonight’s game, but that’s not quite the case. The Steelers are just a 3.5 point favorite on the road, with the Over/Under set at 37. 

Let’s not forget that this is a divisional game, in primetime between two teams that know each other very well. The Steelers are on the road, and it’s going to be soggy, maybe snowy night in Cleveland with a high of 39 expected tonight. Expect a low scoring game on a night in which we should see both teams running the ball a healthy bit. I think the Browns keep it close on what could be a trap game for the Steelers.

AFC Standings 

Taking a look at the AFC standings after Week 11 we see things getting a little tighter at the top of the table. The Chiefs suffered their first defeat since last Christmas last week when Josh Allen ran in a 4th and 2 for a TD late in the game from Buffalo. That means that the Bills and Steelers are now just a game back of the two time defending champions heading into the final stretch of the season. Pittsburgh’s massive win against the Ravens last week means they have a two game cushion in the division, but they are going to have to keep winning if they want a chance for a BYE and home field throughout the playoffs. The Browns…. Well the Browns are done. It’s time to play for pride and to play spoiler the rest of the season. They can start tonight against the Steelers.

Is Cleveland Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski on the hot seat?

Stefanski unbothered by hot seat rumors

When a team is 2-8 it’s inevitable that fingers start pointing to the coach. Kevin Stefanski knows that. Even if he was named the Coach of the Year last season, this league is all about what have you done for me lately. Stefanski was asked if he feels his seat getting a little warm after the Browns most recent loss, and he had a calm response knowing things tend to get blown out of proportion in big city markets. "I think probably because I grew up listening to [Philadelphia radio], I'm smart enough to not worry about outside noise," Stefanski said. "I get that's part of this gig. That's life in the big city. My sole focus is getting this team ready to get a win on Thursday night. That's it."

Star watch: Browns

This is a tough one. Who do we look for to come in and have a big night tonight for the Browns? On a rainy night in Cleveland you would think the run game is going to have to be a big factor tonight. Jerome Ford has been the main RB for most of the season, but Nick Chubb returned from a horrific injury he suffered against the Steelers early last season, and I’m looking for him to exact a little revenge here tonight. He has played in four games since returning and has 163 yards on 53 carries. He’s averaging just 3.1 yards per carry, but tonight I think the Browns let him loose. 

Star watch: Steelers

This team is loaded with stars on the defensive side of the ball, but just recently there have been some major break throughs as this offensive starts to kick into gear with Russell Wilson playing QB. George Pickens is looking like a brand new receiver and Najee Harris is playing the best football of his career over this five game stretch. He has three 100 yard games in the five game win streak and is on pace for his best season ever. Pickens is in the same boat. He has 728 yards on the season, and is without question the top target on this team. He gets most of the attention from opposing defenders, but that hasn’t slowed him down as he approaches his second straight 1,000 yard receiving season. The only knock, if you can call it a knock, is he has just 2 TDs. Let’s look for Wilson to try and connect with him in the red zone tonight after a rough red zone outing last week. 

Season recap: Browns

Where do we start for the Cleveland Browns, who were supposed to come in and compete in what we thought was going to be the best division in football. They have done nothing but disappoint their fans since the beginning of the season. It started with a loss against the Cowboys, but got a win against the Jags in a battle of bottom feeders, but that would be it for a while. Deshaun Watson was struggling running the Brown offense, as Cleveland fans began to turn on him and the team. He would suffer an unfortunate season ending injury during the Browns during their fifth consecutive loss in a game against the Bengals. The next game, Jameis Winston came in under center and led them to a miracle win over the Ravens, but the revolution was short lived. The Browns have lost their last two and have one of the toughest remaining schedules of anyone in the league. 

Season recap: Steelers

After years of impotency on the offensive end, the Steelers moved on from Kenny Pickett knowing if they could get their offensive to be even remotely effective, their defense would give them a chance to win games. That was the case for a large part of the first half of the season as Justin Fields led the Steelers to a 4-2 record, but the offense wasn’t flowing like Mike Tomlin knew it could. Tomlin made the change in Pittsburgh’s primetime game against the Jets and the Steeles have rattled off five straight wins since. The offense looks much better, having scored 27.2 ppg in those five games, and even when they struggle to get in the end zone, you know the defense is going to come up with some game changing plays like they did last week. 

Last game: Browns 

It was another ugly game for the Cleveland Browns who suffered another loss last week. They went down to New Orleans and kept in the game for the first three quarters on a day that Jameis Winston went for 395 yards and two TDs. It was 14-14 heading into the fourth quarter, but the Saints pulled away as Taysom Hill went wild on the ground. He scored two of the three fourth quarter TDs, the first from 33 yards out and the second from 75 yards as the Saints raced past the Browns to sink Cleveland into even more misery heading into their Thursday night game against the Steelers. 

Last game: Steelers

It was one of the handful of massive matchups in Week 11, and the Steelers pulled off a narrow win in a slugfest of a game. Pittsburgh welcomed the Baltimore Ravens in a battle at the top of the AFC North, and it was an old school, rock em sock em rumble just like bad in the glory days of the division. The Steelers set the tone from the very beginning forcing a fumble on the Ravens opening drive and they would control the game from there on out. The offense didn’t do a whole lot, going 0/4 in the red zone, but Chris Boswell came to the rescue hitting all six of his field goals and that was all the defense needed. Pittsburgh had a chance to close out the game early in the 4th quarter, up by five, but Russell Wilson was picked off in the end zone to give the Ravens new life. It wouldn’t last long. Patrick Queen would pick off Lamar Jackson two plays later and that led to a field goal to put Pittsburgh up 8. Baltimore mustered one last charge and scored a TD when Jackson hit Zay Flowers on a 16 yard strike to bring the Ravens within two points. The two point conversion looked doomed from the start as Jackson rolled right, and had to flip it up in the air with no one open down field and pressure closing in. The Steelers hung on to take a two game lead in the division, and are now just a game behind the top spot in the conference.

Hello everyone and welcome to Cleveland where things have been rocky since the very start of the season after an improbable playoff run last year.  The Browns return home after suffering their seventh loss in their last eight games, and now there are rumors swirling in Cleveland that jobs could be at stake after getting blown out in New Orleans last week. It’s not going to get much easier for the Browns who host one of the top teams in the league on a short week. The Steelers took a big step towards winning the division last week in Pittsburgh with their two point win over the Ravens and now they will try to keep pace with the rest of the top dogs in the conference to have a shot at the one seed and home field advantage throughout the playoffs.

The AFC North takes the Thursday night stage to kick off Week 12 on from Cleveland. A couple of familiar foes on the opposite of end of the conference standings get ready for a slugfest in on a cold and rainy Ohio night. It’s the 8-2 Pittsburgh Steelers looking to stay in the hunt for the one seed in the AFC taking on the 2-8 Cleveland Browns who have nothing left to play for except pride.
