The Dallas Cowboys might be getting a major boost on defense as they prepare for their Week 11 matchup with the Las Vegas Raiders.

Cowboys finally getting defensive leader back after long absence?

Coming off their bye week, Dallas is looking to reset its season, and the return of veteran safety Malik Hooker could be the spark they need.

Speaking Monday on 105.3 The Fan, Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones dropped a strong hint that Hooker could make his long-awaited return from a toe injury that’s sidelined him since Week 4’s tie with the Green Bay Packers.

“Getting Hooker back is going to be a big deal,” Jones said. “He’s the quarterback back there, and he’ll make a big difference.”

Jones stopped short of confirming Hooker’s availability, but his tone made it sound like the 28-year-old is trending in the right direction.

The Cowboys’ safety room has been decimated by injuries. Donovan Wilson, Juanyeh Thomas, and Alijah Clark all missed the Week 9 loss to the Arizona Cardinals, leaving the secondary thin and inexperienced. Hooker’s leadership and communication have been sorely missed in Dan Quinn’s defense.

In just four starts this season, Hooker has tallied 20 tackles (12 solo) while serving as the vocal leader in the defensive backfield. His potential return couldn’t come at a better time. The Cowboys are desperate to stop a skid that’s put their playoff positioning at risk, and they’ll need all the defensive help they can get as they currently rank as one of the worst in the league.

Dallas could also see the long-awaited season debuts of linebacker DeMarvion Overshown and rookie cornerback Shavon Revel, both of whom are reportedly ready to suit up.
