Super Bowl teams will not use 49ers training facility in fear of power plant

The San Francisco 49ers have been decimated by injury over the last few years, and there’s a growing theory that it’s tied to a power plant next door.

Update:

The San Francisco 49ers and the city of Santa Clara are hosting the Super Bowl in a couple weekends, but neither the Seattle Seahawks nor the New England Patriots will be using the practice facility of the Niners. The Seahawks will train at San Jose State and the Patriots will be practicing at Stanford University.

Seahawks, Patriots staying away

A couple weeks ago a theory started to surface connecting the San Francisco 49ers recent pandemic of injuries over the last couple years to the power plant that is right next door to the Niners practice facility. The theory went viral after an X user named Peter Cowan made the connection to the injury problems to the power plant.

Cowan, who according to his X account specializes in circadian science, photobiology and biophysics. His post on Twitter claims, “Low-frequency electromagnetic fields can degrade collagen, weaken tendons, and cause soft-tissue damage at levels regulators call ”safe,” Cowen goes on to reference the NInerrs and their proximity to the electrical substation. “We have a real world case study proving this: An NFL team whose practice facility sits next to a massive electrical substation.”

This year alone, we saw Brock Purdy suffer through a turf toe injury all year. Fred Warner and Nick Bosa both suffered season ending injuries that kept them out of the second half of the season and the playoff run. Last season Chrisitan McCaffrey was the biggest star that missed significant time, playing just four games. He wasn’t the only one as the Niners could barely field a 53 man roster towards the end of last season.

Lynch looking into matter

The theory made it all the way to Niners GM John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan in the post season press conference and the GM was asked if this a serious concern within the organization. He claimed the Niners are doing “everything” to figure out the basis of these injuries, “Because it deals with allegedly the health and safety of our players, I think you have to look into everything.”

While the theory has garnered some traction over the last few weeks, or months, the fact of the matter is, teams that made Super Bowl 50 that was played at Levi’s Stadium in 2016 didn’t practice at the Niners facility either.

Denver practiced at San Jose State and Carolina practiced at San Jose State. The theory didn’t exist yet, but both teams opted to train away from the Niners facility more for logistics and to avoid overlap while assuring a sense of privacy and secrecy as they prepared for the biggest game of the season.
