TCU Horned Frogs 7 vs 65 Georgia Bulldogs summary: stats and highlights | College Football National Championship
Vikings’ Patrick Peterson post during TCU’s loss
Whether he was being sincere or a little cheeky, we can definitely say the way in which the Vikings’ player tried to ‘motivate’ the Horned Frogs during their CFP National Championship loss, was very funny.
The Georgia Bulldogs are Champions of the College Football Playoff title game for the second straight year after taking down the TCU Horned Frogs in a historic win from Los Angeles. Stetson Bennett was named the offensive MVP after throwing for 304 yards, four touchdowns and added two rushing touchdowns on the ground.
Bennett named Offensive MVP for second time
Head coach Kirby Smart told his team all year long that they were forgotten about, and no one was betting on the Dogs to win the titles. All they did in their title defending season was go undefeated, and win their second straight Championship by posting the most points in FBS/CFB title game.
The game was over in the blink of an eye, as Georgia got off to a 17-7 start in the first quarter thanks to the brilliant play of Bennett and the dominant Dogs defense. The QB got the scoring going early with a 21 yard TD run on UGA’s first drive. The defense would force a fumble on the next series, which led to a field goal which gave you the indication that it was going to be a long night for TCU.
TCU got their first and only touchdown on the next possession, but then the UGA defense sunk their teeth in as the offense ran all over the Horned Frogs. The kid who couldn’t get a scholarship from Georgia to start his college career was sent off with a standing ovation after winning back-to-back titles and back-to-back Offensive MVP awards in the title game.
UGA already eyeing back-to-back-to-back
Javon Bullard did the heavy lifting on a defensive unit that was outstanding all night long. He picked off TCU quarterback Max Duggan twice and recovered a fumble early in the game to help put the game out of reach early in the first half.
The game got out of hand even before the halftime break, but Georgia didn’t take their foot off the gas extending their lead to a record 65 points, which is the most ever scored in a FBS/CFP National Championship Game.
Before Georgia there had only been 10 back-to-back Championship seasons in college football history, and you can bet coach Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs are going to enjoy tonight but will thinking how to make it a third straight next year.
Coach Smart gets to give the Championship trophy a sooch for the second straight year. He told reporters before the game, his boys were going to come out hunting and that's exactly what they did.
After the fantastic semifinals, we were expecting a tight game in the title game, but that wasn't the case. The Bulldogs lit up TCU in a historic blowout win.

Previous back-to-back champs
Georgia have a chance to make history tonight and join an elite list of college football royalty. Tonight from LA, they can before the 10th team to go back-to-back. Seven different programs have gone back to back, and only one program has won consecutive titles three different time, the Alabama Crimson Tide. Nebraska have done it twice, while Minnesota, Army, Notre Dame Oklahoma and USC have done it once. Minnesota was the first team to go back-to-back in the 1940 and 1941 seasons. The last team to do it was Alabama back in 2011 and 2012.
Horned Frogs take the stage
It’s finally time for the Horned Frogs to step back on the National Title stage after almost 90 years. They have made great strides over the last year to get to where they are tonight, and now look to shock the college football world. It will be up to QB Max Duggan, RB Kendre Miller and WR Quentin Johnson to lead TCU to the promise land tonight from SoFi Stadium.
Bulldogs in the building
Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs arrive on the scene knowing what to expect tonight. They have been through the media, the pregame, the nerves and the tough times that come with being a National Championship game. It’s time to use their experience from last year if they are going to win back-to-back College Football Playoff Championship games.
How the Horned Frogs got here
After a sub .500 season in 2021, the Horned Frogs were not expected to be where they are tonight, but an undefeated regular season campaign set up a matchup with Kansas State in the Big 12 Championship. TCU ended up losing that game in overtime, but their resume was still good enough to get them into the College Football Playoff where they would play the No. 2 team in the nation, the Michigan Wolverines. The Horned Frogs led by 19 at the end of the third quarter, but were able to hold off the Wolverines to punch their ticket to the National Title game.
How Georgia got here
The Bulldogs reached their second straight National Title game after going undefeated through the SEC, the regular season and then in the SEC Championship. Their perfect regular season campaign earned them the top seed in the College Football Playoff and they met the Ohio State Buckeyes in the Chik-Fil-A Peach Bowl from Atlanta, Georgia. The Bulldogs made a historic comeback in the fourth quarter, that was capped off by a Stetson Bennett TD pass to Adonai Mitchell with under a minute to go in the game. Ohio State drove down the field and got to the Georgia 32, but Noah Ruggles missed a 50 yard field goal to send the Bulldogs to their second straight Championship game.
