Music City Miracle
It’s one of the most famous endings to a playoff game ever. Tennessee trailed the Buffalo in the final moments of the AFC Wild Card game back in 2000. The Bills had just taken a 16-15 lead with 16 seconds remaining in the game. The Titans set up a school yard trick play in which Frank Wycheck ran one way and threw the ball all the way across the field to Kevin Dyson who took the kick to the house on a 75 yard game winning return. The Titans went on to go to the Super Bowl that year, only to lose to the St. Louis Rams. Was it a forwards pass? We will never know. After 22 years and a thousands of replays, I can still firmly say that I have no idea.
Who will step up for Tennessee?
Tennessee will always rely on their powerhouse in the backfield, Derrick Henry, who has been the top back in the league for the last few years. They got rid of A.J. Brown and Julio Jones in the back field and their absence was felt in Week 1. Kyle Phillps and Dontrell Phillips had decent opening games, but the Titans will be hoping to see more from Robert Woods who was targeted just twice against the Giants.
Allen from the air and on the ground
For as good of a passer as Josh Allen is, he makes a lot of big plays with his feet. He will always be a pass first quarterback, but if he needs to he can tuck it and run with the best of them. He led the Bills in rushing in Week 1 with 56 yards on the ground.
Another thriller in store this year?
Last year’s matchup between these two teams turned out to be one of the games of the regular season. The Titans survived on a 4th and short stop inside the five yard line to seal the 34-31 win. Both teams put up almost 800 yards of offense in a game where Derrick Henry ran for 143 yards and three touchdowns.
MVP swag
Josh Allen is all business coming into his home stadium. He and the Bills made the cross country trip from LA back to Western New York, but had a few extra days to recover after beating the Rams last Thursday.
Tennessee is in the building
The Titans have beat the Bills in the last two matchups against the Bills, but those games were in Nashville, and Josh Allen wasn’t quite yet the Josh Allen of today. Last year’s top seed in the AFC come into Orchard Park looking to avoid going 0-2 to start the season.
Buffalo's season opener
The Bill gave the most to be impressed by in Week 1. Josh Allen showed why he was the preseason favorite to win the NFL MVP throwing for 297 yards and three touchdowns. He only missed on five of his 31 throws, but he did get picked off on two of those incompletions. The game was tight until halftime, but the Bills broke open the game scoring three unanswered touchdowns and the defense held the Rams scoreless in the final two quarters.
Titans's season opener
The Tennessee Titans did everything they needed to do in the first half of last week’s game against the Giants. They jumped out to a 13 point lead in the first half, and with that advantage you’d figure they’d feed Derrick Henry and rely on the defense to lead them to victory. The Giants limited Henry’s production on the ground and scored 21 points in the final 30 minutes including a touchdown and a two point conversion on a gutsy call to take the lead with a little more than a minute to go in the game.
