Texans 20 vs 16 Colts summary, stats, score and highlights | NFL Week 13

The Texans pulled ahead early in the 4th quarter with this TD from Nico Collins on the reverse and that would be enough for the Texans. They took the lead and let their defense do the rest. IND got a field goal, and were driving to potentially take the lead but the Texans D came up with the stop and close out the Colts to hand them their 3rd loss in 4 games. The AFC is no wide open with the Jags and the Colts at 8-4 and the Texans at 7-5. 

Indy would tie the game up again on their next drive as Jones hit Tyler Warren. Jones ended the day 14/27 for 201 yards and 2 TDs even with the fractured bone in his fibula. 

The Texans got into the end zone just a couple minutes after Indy took the lead, thanks to a Nick Chubb TD run. He had 34 yards on 9 carries, and Woody Marks had 64 on 19 touches. 

After the pick from Bynum, Daniel Jones hit Alec Pierce for a 19 yard TD to give the home side a lead. Jones started the game 1/5 but the Indy offense started to click before the halftime break. 

The Houston Texans went into the house of the division leaders and took down the Indianapolis Colts on a day that they got their starting QB back. 

CJ Stroud came back to action after missing the last month, and despite his pick in the first half, he had an effective game in the huge division win on the road.

The Houston Texans come up with a huge divisional road win and hand the Colts their third loss in their last four games!

Marks with the run for no gain, but that will take enough time off the clock so the Texans won't have to punt the ball away and can watch the clock expire.

The Texans responded on their next drive, taking it down the field and Chubb barreled in to the end zone to put the Texans back on top. e's got 22 yards on 4 rushes and Stroud is 13/22 for 153 yards and and INT in his return. 

Daniel Jones started the game 1/5 but warmed up as the half went on and he connected with Alec Pierce for a 19 yard TD. He's 8/14 with 116 yards and a TD. while Taylor has 40. yards on 10 rushes. 

The Colts got off to a slow start on the offensive end, and things starte to pick up but they fumbled on an attempted 4th down conversion and the Texans took over. On the next play from scrimmage, Stroud got picked off by Bynum to give his offense the ball back.

Stroud with a Hail Mary but that pass is batted away as the clock winds out.

Stroud was scrambling in the backfield and let it loose for Collins, but the pass fell incomplete. An illegal contact on IND is going to give HOU a free first down.

Stroud was under pressure and got rid of it to Noel, but that short pass skips off the turf.

Chubb to the left side and he picks up 2 yards on the first down run.

Crossing route over the middle from Hutchinson and he makes the catch and brings it for 24 yards up the left sideline.

Slant from Collins and he makes the catch and takes it for a gain of 21 yards.

Stroud goes deep down the right sideline and his pass to Collins was too heavy.

Sauce Gardner went down on that play and he couldn't put any weight on his leg when he came off the field.

Screen pass set up for Warren but that was sniffed out by HOU and Jones throws it into the dirt.

AFC Standings

Taking a look at the AFC Standings we see the Colts have been dropped off their perch at the top of the conference. The New England Patriots are top dogs with a record of 10-2, then the Broncos at 9-2 and then the Colts at 8-3. The Colts lead the AFC South, but it’s a lot closer than it was a couple of weeks ago. They have a one game lead over the Jacksonville Jaguars and a two game lead over the Texans, but this is the first of two matchups between these teams and the Colts have to play the Jags twice in the final stretch of the season as well so nothing has been determined in this division. 

QB controversy to come?

The conversation might need to be had should the Texans lose the game today. Is there a QB controversy in Houston? Right now they have to go with Stroud who is their QB1, and face of the franchise but you can’t ignore the face that the Texans are undefeated with Davis Mills in at QB. Right now there is no question that DeMeco Ryans has to go with his guy, but if they lose today don’t be surprised if the question starts to get raised in the Rocket City. 

JT still an MVP candidate?

Up until last week Jonathan Taylor was a serious candidate for the MVP. Leading the league in rushing yards and TDs, and on pace to challenge LaDanian Tomlinson’s single season total TD record of 31. He had just 58 yards on 16 carries last week, and when you are a running back, unfortunately a game like that can drop you right out of the race. Now he is capable of putting up by numbers and scoring multiple TDs like he has done on five occasions this year but he’s going up against the top defense in the league. Taylor has 1,197 yards, and 15 TDs on the ground with another couple receiving TDs. 

Star watch: Texans

Let’s not forget who CJ Stroud is. He is the same guy that came into the league in his rookie year and led a complete turnaround of the franchise that was at the bottom of the barrel and took them to the playoffs in his first year. Last year was a tough year, and the start of this year has been rough for CJ as well. The offensive line is shaky at best, and there has not been much a ground game in Houston this year, but Davis Mills showed you don’t have to play hero ball with a defense like the Texans have. He’s got 1,702 yards with 11 TDs and 5 INTs this year but his record is 3-5 this year, and that is a problem in Houston. 

Star watch: Colts 

What a season it’s been for Daniel Jones who was chased out of New York with his future as a starting QB in the league in series doubt. The Colts took a chance on him, but he would have to win the starting job in Indy. He won it, and the rest is history. He’s in the midst of a career season with 2,840 yards with 17 TDs and 7 INTs. This is a fragile moment in the season, and it’s going to be up to the leader of the offense to pull them out of his little skid and bring some calm back to Lucas Oil Stadium. 

Stroud is back

CJ Stroud took a big hit against the Denver Broncos and it knocked him out for the rest of the game, and the next three games. After patiently waiting to get the green light from doctors, the Texans finally get their QB1 back and he comes back in a much better position than he left the team. Stroud is back under center, and getting tossed right into the fire in Indy against a team that many thought were the best team in the league for the first half of the season. 

Colts last game

It was maybe the toughest test of the season for the Colts in their last game in KC. Having to go into Arrowhead, and take on Patrick Mahomes and a desperate Chiefs team wasn’t going to be easy but the Colts almost pulled off the win. Indy came out and scored a first quarter TD thanks to a Daniel Jones pass to Michael Pittman Jr., and they would add to that lead with a Drew Ogletree TD catch to take a 14-3 lead, but the Chiefs would come charging back. A couple of field goals before the break tightened the game heading into the second half but the Colts would go back up 11 with two 3rd quarter field goals. Kareem Hunt’s rising TD midway through the fourth quarter was the only TD KC scored, and then Harrison Butker kicked a field goal to push the game into OT. KC would hold the Colts to a three and out and Butker would end the game with a 27 yard field goal. 

Texans last game 

The Texans had a key primetime matchup against the Buffalo Bills last week, and the defense came up huge against the reigning MVP of the NFL. Buffalo scored an opening drive touchdown, but the defense would lock in after that. Calen Bullock had a monster game, interception Allen twice and forcing a fumble, accounting for all three of the Bills turnovers. Davis Mills had a modest game, going for 153 yards but the threw a couple of TDs in the first half to put the Texans up 20-16 at the break. Allen was harassed by the D line all night long, and they sacked him 8 times as the Bills were held to a field goal the rest of the game. Allen and the Bills had one last chance to win the game, down 23-19 and inside the Houston 25, but Allen threw an INT and the Texans hung on for the win.

They came off their BYE week last weekend and had a big match up with the KC Chiefs in Arrowhead and the Chiefs beat them in OT as Indy dropped their second game in their last three. The Houston Texans have been on a roll despite losing their starting QB at the beginning of the month. Davis Mills came in and led the Texans to three straight wins to revive their playoff chances. Now they are back in the mix, with their QB1 back under center.

It’s an AFC South showdown from Indianapolis and all of the sudden this division is looking a lot tighter than it did just a few weeks ago. The Indianapolis Colts looked like one of the best teams in the league not too long ago, but two losses in their last three have opened the door for the Houston Texans who visit town today.
