The first teams to book their places in the postseason are starting to emerge - as are those who look like missing out.
The 2024-25 NFL season is hotting up. Tonight’s matchup between the Cleveland Browns and the Denver Broncos brings Week 13 to a close and a picture is starting to emerge. We’re seeing the top teams who are well placed to qualify for the postseason, the teams that are risking their lives to join them and those who will miss out.
NFL standings: the current outlook
In the AFC Conference, the first to be crowned in their division were the Buffalo Bills, who with a 10-2 record have been crowned in the AFC East.
In the AFC West, for the moment, the Kansas City Chiefs remain at the top (with a 11-1 record), with a guaranteed spot in the Wild Card. In the AFC North there is an intense fight, but the Pittsburgh Steelers (9-3) are positioned as leaders above the Baltimore Ravens (8-5). And the situation in the AFC South is pretty much wrapped up with the Houston Texans (8-5) in first place.
In the National Conference, there is still a long way to go, as no one has yet earned a spot in the postseason.
In the NFC East, the Philadelphia Eagles (10-2) are in the lead; in the NFC West, the Seattle Seahawks (7-5) took the lead over the Arizona Cardinals (6-6). Things in the NFC North have gotten complicated in a close fight between the Detroit Lions and the Minnesota Vikings (10-2), while there is a tie for first place in the NFC South between the Atlanta Falcons (6-6) and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-6).
The teams eliminated from the NFL Playoffs
So far, three teams have no chance of advancing to the playoffs this season:
From the American Conference: New England Patriots (3-10) and Las Vegas Raiders (2-10), are eliminated.
From the National Conference: Those who have already run out of aspirations are the New York Giants (2-10).
Running out of options are the Jaguars, who will be out of the playoff picture if the Broncos beat the Browns tonight. The Jets and the Titans are also falling behind while in the National Conference, it’s not looking good for the Panthers, the Bears and the Saints.
