The Chiefs trade Skyy Moore to the 49ers
San Francisco needed to bolster the wide receiver position due to injuries to Brandon Aiyuk and Jauan Jennings.

As the Kansas City Chiefs gear up for the 2025 NFL season, they’ve made it clear who quarterback Patrick Mahomes will be targeting. The team’s wide receiver depth chart now features Rashee Rice, Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, rookie speedster Xavier Worthy, and veteran JuJu Smith-Schuster—leaving Skyy Moore as the odd man out.
With Moore struggling to find his footing in Kansas City, the Chiefs opted to make a move. According to NFL Network, they’ve traded the 24-year-old wideout to the San Francisco 49ers, along with a seventh-round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft. In return, Kansas City receives a sixth-round selection from that same draft.
Moore, a second-round pick in 2022, never quite lived up to expectations in KC. After three seasons marked by injuries and inconsistent play, he’ll now look for a fresh start in San Francisco—a team currently dealing with a depleted receiver corps due to injuries and suspensions

Moore was in the final year of his rookie deal, signed after being selected in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft. A product of Western Michigan, Moore earned two Super Bowl rings during his time in Kansas City, despite limited playing time—just 36 regular-season games, 43 catches, 494 receiving yards, and a single touchdown. His most memorable moment came in Super Bowl LVII, when he hauled in a four-yard touchdown pass against the Philadelphia Eagles.
49ers bolster WR depth as injuries mount
The trade makes sense for both sides. San Francisco is dealing with a wide receiver shortage heading into the 2025 season. Star wideout Brandon Aiyuk is recovering from a torn ACL and MCL and isn’t expected back until October. Jauan Jennings is nursing a calf injury, while Jordan Watkins and Jacob Cowing are also sidelined with lower-body issues.
That leaves the 49ers with just three healthy receivers: first-round pick Ricky Pearsall, veteran Russell Gage Jr., and seventh-round rookie Junior Bergen.
For the Niners, Moore represents a low-risk, high-upside acquisition. His salary for the upcoming season is a manageable $1.5 million, and with his rookie contract expiring soon, he’ll be motivated to prove himself—whether that’s in San Francisco or elsewhere. If Moore can tap into the potential that made him a second-round pick, he could become a valuable contributor in a depleted offense.
Moore’s debut in red and gold is expected in Week 1 against the Seattle Seahawks, Sunday, September 7 at 4:25 PM EST. With San Francisco’s WR room in flux, he may get his chance sooner than expected.
