The Kansas City Chiefs extended Andy Reid’s contract until 2029 with a five-year, $100 million contract, according to Sportico. His bond with the team led by Patrick Mahomes will expire after Super Bowl LXIII.

With his new deal, Reid, who will be 71 years old when his contract ends, became the highest-paid coach in American sports when he signed his extension, receiving an average of $20 million a year . The AFC West team’s previous coach’s salary was $12.5 million per season.

This was also achieved thanks to the fact that Bill Belichick, who received $25 million per year, has parted ways with the New England Patriots. The second highest paid coach in the NFL is Sean Payton of the Denver Broncos, with an average of $18 million per season.

Reid arrived in Kansas City in 2013 and since then he has a record of 128-51 in the regular season and 16-7 in the playoffs with four American Conference championships and three Super Bowls won.

Andy Reid, among the best coaches in NFL history

Right now, Reid is number four on the regular season win list for NFL coaches with 258, only behind Bill Belichick (302), George Halas (318) and Don Shula (328). In terms of playoff wins, the Kansas City Chiefs are in second place with 26, only behind Bill Belichick’s 31 wins.

This extension gives Reid a fighting chance at retiring as the winningest coach in NFL history.
