The GM that ignored son’s advice to draft Jayden Daniels
The Washington Commanders have been transformed by his incredible rookie season, but the 24-year-old could easily have gone elsewhere.

Of all the teams in the NFL, the 2025 offseason will be particularly busy for the New York Giants front office.
Having failed to make the playoffs for two consecutive season, and recording just one postseason win in eight years, the long-suffering Giants fans are in need of fresh hope. They going into the offseason without a single quarterback under contract on the roster, meaning that they have plenty of work to do.
The Giants have the No. 3 pick for the 2025 NFL Draft and have reportedly been meeting with high-profile Colorado QB Shedeur Sanders. However the QB situation could already be resolved had general manager Joe Schoen been a bit more decisive in last year’s draft.
Footage from the docuseries Hard Knocks shows Schoen’s son telling him to trade up to take Jayden Daniels in the 2024 Draft. But he didn’t, the Giants failed to strengthen at QB, and Daniels is now preparing for a Conference Championship game with the Washington Commanders.
Could the Giants have drafted Jayden Daniels?
In Schoen’s defence, the Giants would have needed to do a lot of work to trade up from No. 6 to No. 2 to snatch Daniels. But Schoen Jnr wasn’t the only one who was pushing for decisive action to open the door to the LSU quarterback.
Hard Knocks also shows Giants head coach Brian Daboll being asked whether he would considering trading up to take him.
Schoen asked the coach, “Daniels: Have you guys seen enough that you would trade up for him?” Daboll answered, “Daniels? I would.”
Looking forward to this year’s draft, there is less quality in the QB department so the Giants will have to think wisely before handing someone the keys to the franchise. Sanders is one name, but Giants running back Tyrone Tracy Jr has someone else in mind.
“To be honest with you, I’m a fan of Cam Ward,” Tracy revealed. “Just because I think the passing and the running, that’s where the league is shifting to, and just off of Dabs’s offense, we have a whole bunch of QB runs and situations where the QB has to run. I’m not saying other quarterbacks in the draft can’t run, I just know Cam Ward is the best off of film.”
