The Jets just made NFL history - for all the wrong reasons

The New York Jets aren’t just winless after five games, but they’re also the only team in NFL history to achieve this embarrassing stat.

Update:

There’s losing. And then there’s losing in a way nobody has ever lost before. After a 37-22 defeat to Dallas on Sunday, the New York Jets became the first team in NFL history to start a season 0-5 without forcing a single turnover — no interceptions, no forced fumbles, nothing.

That record is brutal, but it’s also a glaring symbol of dysfunction within the franchise. It means the defense is fading. And it’s happening under a coach, Aaron Glenn, whose hire was supposed to restore order, accountability, and identity to a storied but broken franchise.

0 Wins, 0 Turnovers: New York Jets’ historic free fall

Through five games, the Jets have zero defensive takeaways. Meanwhile, the offense has given the ball away seven times, creating a turnover differential of –7. In past eras, coaches and fans used to pray for one big interception or forced fumble to shift momentum. The Jets haven’t had even that.

This isn’t a fluke. According to ESPN/ClutchPoints research, going 0-4 without a single takeaway is nearly unprecedented - only five teams in the past 90 years have done that through Week 4. The Jets have now doubled down: 0-5, still no takeaways.

Glenn was hired for his defensive pedigree. He was supposed to re-anchor the chaos, teach fundamentals, restore intensity. Instead, his signature side of the ball is the weakest link. The constant lack of takeaways is a personal failure line for him.

Jets legends and analysts often warn against writing off a rebuilding team too early. But this isn’t your typical rebuild. The absence of takeaways suggests the defense is missing its identity entirely.
