Update:

The New York Jets’ monumentally bad start to the new season continues, with their Week 6 defeat to the Denver Broncos in London leaving them 0-6 after six straight losses.

Playoff hopes already (almost) over

Needless to say, Aaron Glenn’s team has next to no hope of reaching the postseason, something they haven’t done since 2010, when they lost to the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC Championship Game.

Since then, the Jets have managed just one winning season. Their 10-6 record in 2015 still wasn’t enough to get them into the playoffs.

Nobody is seriously suggesting New York has what it takes to go on an 11-game winning streak and fight for a postseason spot. But the team’s dismal start has fans wondering which NFL franchises have managed to recover from early losing streaks to reach the playoffs.

The NFL’s best at bouncing back

Five teams have made it to the postseason after starting 0-3: the Jets themselves (1981), the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (1982), the Detroit Lions (1995), the Buffalo Bills (1998), and the Houston Texans (2018). Only one team has ever done better.

In 1992, the San Diego Chargers began the season 0-4, then won 11 of their next 12 games to clinch the AFC West, before losing in the Wild Card round.

The most recent 11-win NFL team to miss the playoffs was the New England Patriots in 2008. We’re going to put our necks on the line and say this Jets team isn’t going to take that record anytime soon.
