The NFL quarterback prospect who models his game after Cam Newton and Lamar Jackson
Anthony Richardson declared at the NFL Scouting Combine that ever since high school he has shaped his game with Cam Newton and Lamar Jackson as references.
The quarterback class in the NFL Draft of 2023 contains some exciting prospects like Bryce Young, C.J. Stroud, Will Levis, Hendon Hooker, and Stetson Bennett. But one of the most exciting has to be Anthony Richardson.
The 21-year-old Florida graduate spoke to the media at the NFL Scouting Combine and stated that ever since high school he has shaped his playing style with Cam Newton and Lamar Jackson as models.
“Growing up, it was always about Cam Newton for me,” Richardson said. “When I got to high school, seeing how dynamic Lamar was, I tried to implement things from both players into my life. I started calling myself Cam Jackson in 11th grade, trying to make big plays.”
As a senior in college football played in 12 games with the Florida Gators and completed 53.8% of his throws for 2,549 yards with 17 touchdowns and nine interceptions. In addition, he had nine rushing touchdowns after carrying 103 times for 654 yards.
Despite modelling his game after two of recent MVPs, Richardson aspires for more and seeks to emulate the greatness of quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs and the recently retired Tom Brady.
“I want to be a legend, I want to be like Patrick Mahomes, I want to be like Tom Brady,” said the Florida graduate. “I want to be one of the greats because I'm willing to work hard and get to that point.”
