Update:

“America’s Sweethearts: Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders” released its second season on Netflix on Wednesday and along with some familiar faces, some new ones were introduced. Although if you watched CMT’s “Making the Team”, you might remember Ava.

Ava tried out for the squad in 2021, but didn’t make the team and returned in 2024 to try again. “America’s Sweethearts” reminded us of why she was cut in the first place.

Ava’s “provocative” social media posts

In “America’s Sweethearts”, we are introduced to Ava, who is trying out for the squad a second time. She and director Kelli Finglass both spoke about her first tryout in 2021 and the reason she didn’t make the team.

“I remember Ava, when she tried out, she was one of our younger candidates,” Finglass reflected. “She had posted some...provocative pictures, if you will. Probably didn’t think a thing about ‘em.”

The photos in question have since been taken down, so it’s not known exactly what Finglass is referring to, but in the “Making the Team” episode, she asks Ava about dancing to music with foul language and flipping off the camera.

“When you start dancing, and you do this and you just flip off the camera and things like that, tell me who you are there,” Finglass said to Ava at the time.

At first, it was just a warning. But in “America’s Sweethearts”, Finglass said that Ava actually continued to post questionable content that wasn’t the right fit for the DCC brand even after.

“Just seemed a little self-promoting, and not the character of humility and grace that I was looking for,” said Finglass.
