Update:

Football is so close you can almost taste it. The NFL preseason kicks off from Canton, Ohio with the Hall of Fame Game on July 31st as the Los Angeles Chargers and the Detroit Lions to open the exhibition slate.

There are plenty of reasons to tune in to preseason football. The most obvious one is because we haven’t seen a snap since mid February. Other than that there are rookies to keep an eye on, players on new teams, and coaches making their debut on the sidelines. There are a lot of games over the next month, and it’ll be hard to watch all of them. So we are going to break down the must watch preseason games coming up over the next few weeks.

Los Angeles Chargers vs. Detroit Lions, July 31

There won’t be any starters playing and there won’t be any juicy headlines to keep track of heading into the Hall of Fame Game. It’s too early in the preseason for that. Both of these teams were the first to report to training camps and we will see how they are both progressing, but in the end football is football and we will all be tuned in to the Hall of Fame Game that kicksoff the preseason.

Cleveland Browns vs. Carolina Panthers, August 8th

This isn’t just about Shedeur Sanders making his debut with Cleveland. Although that is one big story line not just for the Browns but around the league. Cleveland have four QBs in training camp, and one of those is Shedeur. He will likely get a lot of snaps along with Kenny Gabriel. Bryce Young earned his keep in Carolina last year so the QB probably won’t get much playing time if any in the first week of preseason games.

Tennessee Titans vs. Atlanta Falcons, August 15th

The Titans are set to debut their No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft Cam Ward. He has yet to be named the Week 1 starter in Tennessee, but with the season ending surgery Will Levis had, the rookie looks like a shoe in for the job. We will get our first look at him against the Atlanta Falcons who have Michael Penix Jr. as their QB of the future. He played a handful of games at the end of the season and it seems like Atlanta is moving on from Kirk Cousins, who may get more than a few snaps as the back up to Penix Jr.

New York Jets vs. New. York Giants, August 16th

When two New York teams go toe to toe in the Big Apple it’s always worth a watch. Especially when you’ve got a couple quarterbacks who were teammates last year, and looking to set up shop in a new city and on a new team. Russell Wilson was named the Giants starter, but hopefully he will get some snaps in Week 2 despite being a seasoned vet. On the other sideline will be Justin Fields who was signed by the Jets this offseason. He suffered a dislocated toe, and there hasn’t been a time frame put on his return, but hopefully he returns in time to get a few snaps before Week 1. They have a new coach in Aaron Glenn and an injured QB in Fields. Both of these teams are trying to get out of the gutter of their respective conferences, and bad teams usually have the most to prove in the preseason.

Chicago Bears vs. Kansas City Chiefs, August 22nd

Even if we get to see Patrick Mahomes for a snap on the final week of preseason it’ll be worth the price of admission. He’s a veteran QB, a three time Super Bowl winner, and multiple time MVP. He doesn’t need to play, and the Chiefs shouldn’t risk it but as fans we wouldn’t mind seeing some Mahomes Magic for a few plays. The Bears will have Ben Johnson on the sideline as a new era begins in the Windy City. He will want to get Caleb Wiliams so reps this preseason as he implements his new system in Chicago.
