There’s just two playoffs spots still up for grabs heading into NFL Week 18, the final round of regular season action. But at the other end of the spectrum there’s a real tussle for the coveted No. 1 pick at the 2025 NFL Draft.

The team with the worst record will be given best access to the cream of the college crop and four teams are still in contention to claim the first pick. As it stands, the New England Patriots are in pole position after a 40-7 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers last weekend.

That result saw them overtake the New York Giants, who had looked destined for the No. 1 pick after a dismal ten-game losing streak. However a shock victory over the Las Vegas Raiders has seen them supplanted by the Giants as the league’s worst-performing team.

Also in contention are the Tennessee Titans and the Cleveland Browns, although it would take a significant swing to see them leapfrog the Giants and take the No. 1 pick. Here’s a look at the Week 18 fixtures for those four teams in the mix...

Race for the No. 1 Draft pick

  • Patriots - Home to Buffalo Bills
  • Titans - Home to Houston Texans
  • Browns - Away to Baltimore Ravens
  • Giants - Away to Philadelphia Eagles

Big off-season coming for the Jets

Of all the teams in the NFL it could be argued that the Giants' city neighbours, the New York Jets, are most in need of a major offseason shake-up. Not only have they lost the head coach and general manager during a wretched 2024 campaign but 41-year-old quarterback Aaron Rodgers also looks set to leave this summer.

The veteran QB has insisted that he would happily stay with the team if given the opportunity but the Giants may decide that a new coach presents a real opportunity to bring through a top new QB prospect. Potential draft positions have been a key topic of conversation among Giants fans in recent weeks and that will continue through the weekend’s action as they turn the page of an underwhelming campaign.
