Update:

Super Bowl LIX is just a few days away and the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs players are already in New Orleans preparing for the big game at Caesars Superdome this Sunday.

Monday was the Opening Night and several players were interviewed ahead of the game. One of those players was Eagles running back Saquon Barkley. Barkley joined the Eagles this season after spending his first six seasons with the New York Giants. He quickly became a Philly fan favorite as well as the Giants' biggest regret as he now prepares to play in the biggest game of the year.

What gets Saquon Barkley pumped

Barkley has had an outstanding season with the Eagles, making his presence known right off the bat by rushing for 109 yards and scoring three touchdowns (two rushing and one receiving) in his debut. He didn’t slow down after that either, running all over opponents’ defenses and making crazy impressive plays like this backwards hurdle all season:

In Week 14, Barkley broke LeSean McCoy’s previous single-season rushing yard franchise record and by the end of the season, he became just the ninth running back in NFL history to cross the 2,000 yard mark in a single season. He was just 101 yards shy of breaking Eric Dickerson’s single-season rushing yards record (with 2,005 total) in Week 18, and likely would have broken it had he not sat out that final game.

Barkley was a huge reason the Eagles made it to the Super Bowl this year, continuing his impressive feats into the postseason. It makes one wonder, what does a player like that listen to in order to get hyped before a game? The answer is not what you’d expect.

“My favorite hype song before a game? This might sound weird...I listen to Rod Wave, so yeah it’s not really hype music,” said Barkley. “Some people call it sad music, but it gets me in my bag. Yeah, for my mental.”

For those who don’t know, Rod Wave is a rapper and singer/songwriter who’s known for being a pioneer of the “trap-soul” genre.

It might be a little “weird”, sure, but who is going to question the NFL’s leader in rushing yards? Barkley is up for NFL MVP in tonight’s NFL Honors ceremony as well. He can listen to whatever he pleases. It’s working for him.
