Tanner McKee is the new name on the lips of Philadelphia Eagles fans after his immediate impact in Sunday’s week 17 game against the Dallas Cowboys, in which he replaced injured quarterback Kenny Pickett.

Pickett had, of course, only been playing as a result of first-choice QB Jalen Hurts being unavailable due to the concussion he suffered in the week 16 defeat to the Washington Commanders.

Pickett injury gives McKee Eagles opportunity

With the Eagles well ahead and cruising to the NFC East title, Pickett was crushed by the Cowboys’ Micah Parsons while throwing a third-down touchdown pass to A.J. Brown.

That gave McKee the opportunity to see his first game action in the regular season in his NFL career and the 24-year-old wasted little time in making his presence felt. Less than 15 minutes into his first NFL game for Philadelphia, the Californian threw his first touchdown pass to A.J. Brown.

Tanner McKee to start in Week 18 against the Giants

McKee played college football for Stanford Cardinal between 2020 and 2022 before being picked up by the Eagles in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft, in which he was the overall 188th pick.

The 6’6” youngster impressed with Nick Sirianni’s team during summer training camp and in preseason, with some even believing he deserved to be Hurts’ backup ahead of Pickett.

Injuries have now given McKee a chance to show what he is capable of and he duly obliged, sending the Eagles sideline wild as they celebrated a special moment in his fledgling career.
