Few stories have occupied our attention this NFL off-season like that of the GOAT’s. After all this is a player who announced his retirment only to take a u-turn less than two months later.

Tom Brady admits to Miami Dolphins talks

Earlier this year, reports were rampant about Tom Brady exploring an ownership role with the Miami Dolphins, but such talk would later be put on the back burner when Brady decided to sign on with Fox Sports to become their No. 1 color commentator for NFL games after his career comes to an end. Recently, the man himself who is now in the final season of his Buccaneers contract, admitted that he did in fact have conversations with Miami when he was considering what to do next.

“I’ve had a lot of conversations with a lot of people, as I’ve had for the past three or four years in my career, about different opportunities when I’m done playing football,” Brady said on Thursday. “I kind of made a decision of what I’d like to do. I’ll get to be in the game of football. ...The most important thing is where I’m at now and what I hope to do for this team. That’s been my commitment, to this team and this organization.

What was the Dolphins stance?

While we can only go with what was reported, what we do know is that Miami wanted Sean Payton as their next head coach and Brady to as both a minority owner of the team and quarterback for Payton to build on. As we now know, what happened next is that the Saints didn’t give the green light and Brady himself was evidently still under contract with the Buccaneers so in the end there was no deal. Interestingly, had the Saints authorized the move, both teams would have had to agree to compensation if Miami were to hire Payton.

Where is Tom Brady at right now?

Does Tom Brady have plans to play after his contract comes to an end when this season coming ends and more importantly, if so, who would he play for? For the moment those questions remain unanswered, but what is certain is that Brady has signed a 10-year, $375 million deal with Fox Sports, which is set to begin once he retires. With that said the man himself has given no clear indication as to when he intends to bring the curtain down on what has been an illustrious career. “It’s been so much fun for me to come to this organization two years ago. It’s been almost two-and-a-half years now,” Brady said. “It’s been an incredible part of my football journey, but it’s not over. I still have a lot to accomplish.

“I got a long life ahead, and if there’s a lot of fun things to do ahead. I’m looking forward to what’s ahead in football. At the same time, none of us are promised much other than what we have now. This is the current moment and I’m really excited about going out there and trying to compete.”

So where does Tom Brady go from here?

At almost 45 years of age, Brady is already doing what many would argue is impossible, but we are talking about probably the greatest player ever in the league’s history, so expect him to still be top tier despite his age. There is of course his broadcast deal which makes the scenario a little harder to read, but again, based on what we know it would be a safe bet to assume that Tom Brady isn’t finished with his playing career just yet.

“It’s very challenging when you’re 43 or 44 because there’s a lot of other things that are pressing and a lot of other things that are really important in your life,” Brady said. “Like your kids and your wife and different relationships, and things are always taking a backseat to football. That’s just how it’s gone for me. So it’s challenging. I’ve got to work through those things. It’s part of what’s challenging about things that’s happening in your life, different decisions you make. I have a great life, I have zero complaints about it, I just try to do the best I can do.”
