Tom Brady fires back at Buccaneers quarterback Baker Mayfield and here is what he said

The current Bucs’ QB seemed to imply that Tom Brady’s time with the team was fraught with stress. He should’ve known there was going to be a response.

If you’re even remotely familiar with the seven-time Super Bowl winner you almost certainly know that his success was not achieved by talent alone but by grit, determination, and a manic-like obsession with perfection. Indeed, it’s that last part that came under the spotlight recently when the Tampa Bay Buccaneers current quarterback spoke about the man whose shoes he’s trying to fill at present.

Tom Brady answers Baker Mayfield in typical fashion

Earlier this month, Baker Mayfield turned heads when he seemingly took a shot at Tom Brady, stating that the legendary quarterback made his teammates feel “stressed out” during his tenure with the franchise, one that it should be said, culminated in a Super Bowl win over the Kansas City Chiefs. Needless to say, a response was always going to be on the cards and Brady, who is now in the booth for FOX Sports as an analyst, did not disappoint those who were hoping for a bit of early-season spice. Yet, before we get there, let’s take a look at what Mayfield said about the man many believe to be the best to ever play the game:

“The building was a little bit different with Tom in there. Obviously, playing-wise, Tom is different. He had everybody dialed in, high-strung environment, so I think everybody was pretty stressed out,” Mayfield said. “They wanted me to come in, be myself, bring the joy back to football for guys who weren’t having as much fun.”

With that, we come back to Brady who was not subtle in his response to Mayfield, explaining that a football team is not a place where having fun is the priority, such that if that’s what you’re looking for, you’re in the wrong place. Indeed, Brady was frank in his take as he appeared to indicate that such ideas are what make the difference between players and teams who win titles, and those who simply compete. As we said, the now-retired playmaker was not subtle. See for yourself:

“I thought stressful was not having Super Bowl rings,” Brady said. “This wasn’t daycare...If I was going to have fun, I was going to Disneyland with my kids. There’s a way to approach this game and it’s with the right mindset to push teammates.” Far be it from us to argue with the NFL’s greatest, but one has to wonder whether winning anything consistently is possible without joy. Nonetheless, we’re going with the GOAT on this one which is to say Mayfield should have chosen his words with more care.
