Travis Hunter reveals he WON’T work out at NFL Combine
The Heisman winner and two-way threat has joined his fellow teammate at Colorado in skipping out on NFL Combine workouts, to the disappointment of many.

Colorado Buffaloes dual threat player and this year’s Heisman winner could’ve made history at the NFL Combine this week. Travis Hunter, who played as a full-time cornerback and wide receiver in college and excelled at both, was expected to work out at both positions this week as the 2025 NFL Combine began on Thursday.

Travis Hunter shockingly reveals he won’t work out at Combine
Instead, he’s joined several other top NFL prospects, including his fellow teammate at Colorado, quarterback Shedeur Sanders, in sitting out the workouts during the Combine.
The real reason some rookies skip out on the NFL Combine
Hunter is a unique player, not only because he plays at two positions, but that he plays those two positions on opposite sides of the ball, and he plays them both extremely well. Hunter has said he’s prepared to take “100% of snaps” for any NFL team. He’s not committed to just one position.

“There’s no way I would want to limit him to just one side of the football … He’s too transcendent of a talent to do that.” pic.twitter.com/MJmUvPiEVw
In 2024, Hunter played 688 snaps on defense and 672 on offense, winning awards for the best defensive player (Chuck Bednarik Award) and best wide receiver (Fred Biletnikoff Award), in addition to the Heisman.
At the moment, it’s not known if any NFL team would be willing to use him at both positions, especially at the level Hunter would like. His participation at the Combine could have changed the way NFL teams evaluate players in the future were he to participate in drills for both positions.
“They say nobody has ever done it, for real, the way I do it, but I tell them I’m just different,” Hunter said about playing both defensive and offensive positions. “I’m a different person. I’ve been doing it for a long time, so I feel like I can keep doing it.”

On Thursday, however, Hunter told reporters that he’d be sitting on the sidelines. He joins other NFL top prospects like Sanders, Penn State defensive end Abdul Carter, and Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty on the bench. Instead, he will participate in drills during the Big 12’s Pro Days in Frisco, Texas from March 18-21.

It’s disappointing that fans won’t get to see Hunter work out at the Combine after all the anticipation and buildup. But Hunter has already impressed the scouts with his performances, and he has the opportunity to do so at the Pro Days as well. His hope is to be picked No. 1 overall in the upcoming draft in April. The Tennessee Titans currently hold that spot .
“Super important - That was one of my dreams to go No. 1 and be the best I can be,” Hunter said.
