Update:

The NFL world hasn’t seen the last of Travis Kelce just yet. After months of speculation on whether or not to retire at the end of the 2024 NFL season, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end has decided he’s not ready to call it quits just yet.

Travis Kelce in the NFL to stay for a while longer

At 35 years old, Kelce has had 12 great seasons in the NFL, all with the Chiefs. He’s helped take them to four Super Bowls with three wins. Despite a fantastic career, Kelce and the Chiefs didn’t get the three-peat they sought this past season.

The Chiefs made it to their third consecutive Super Bowl after winning the last two years in a row. Unfortunately, they suffered a heartbreaking loss to the Philadelphia Eagles to miss landing the historic achievement.

Had the Chiefs won the Super Bowl, Kelce’s decision may have been different. But on the Pat McAfee Show on Thursday, McAfee shared a text he received from Kelce:

“Gonna try and get to the best shape I’ve been this offseason and get back to the mountaintop,” the message read. “Got a real bad taste in my mouth with how I played in that last game and how I got the guys ready for battle. I can’t go out like that!!!!”

Kelce’s current contract with the Chiefs runs through to the end of the 2025 season. They’ll owe him the $11.5 million roster bonus on March 15 now that he’s staying with the team for another season.
