Travis Kelce addressed the dramatic events of the Kansas City Chiefs’ loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on the latest edition of the New Heights podcast.

The Chiefs’ defeat ended their postseason hopes and saw quarterback Patrick Mahomes suffer a torn anterior cruciate ligament, ending his season.

The Chiefs’ tight end admitted it was difficult to process what unfolded on the field. “He’s a warrior in football,” Kelce said. “He’ll make sure to come back stronger than ever. Hopefully, the Chiefs can get him back as soon as possible.”

According to reports, Mahomes underwent surgery on Monday to repair the torn ligaments and has already begun his rehabilitation process. A clearer timeline for his return next season will be established as his recovery progresses.

Reflecting on the moment of the injury, Kelce explained: “The season was going the way it had up to that point, and we were on our last mission to try and keep our playoff hopes alive in the last quarter. Then, on a strange play, to see No. 15 go down like that… It was unreal."

This marks the first time Mahomes will miss the playoffs since being drafted in 2017. For Kelce, it will be only the second time in his career that he does not reach the postseason, the first coming during the 2014 season.

Despite the disappointing outcome, Kelce pointed out that the Chiefs were competitive throughout the season: “This year, numbers-wise, we’re on par with some of the best offenses, depending on the category you’re looking at, but only in critical moments.”

“All the games we’ve lost were by a single point. We were right there until the very end. Things just didn’t go our way when we needed them most, and now we have to regroup and finish the season strong with three games left.”
