Update:

The New England Patriots drafted running back TreVeyon Henderson with a premium pick, and then backed that decision up with one of the most notable rookie contracts in the 2025 class.

Henderson, the former Ohio State star selected 38th overall in the second round, signed a fully guaranteed four-year deal, a rarity for non–first-round picks and a clear signal of how highly the Patriots valued him heading into his NFL career.

TreVeyon Henderson’s contract at a glance

Henderson signed a four-year, $11.14 million contract with New England that runs through the 2028 season.

Key details:

  • Length: 4 years (2025–2028)
  • Total value: $11,143,234
  • Signing bonus: $4,744,168
  • Guaranteed money: $11,143,234 (fully guaranteed)
  • Average annual salary: $2.78 million
  • Free agent year: 2029 (unrestricted)

Every dollar of Henderson’s deal is guaranteed, an uncommon structure for a second-round running back and one that puts him in rare company among recent rookie contracts. League-wide momentum helped set the market. Guards Jonah Savaiinaea (No. 37) and wide receiver Luther Burden III (No. 39) both landed guaranteed deals, making it difficult for New England to do anything less with the pick sandwiched between them.

Year-by-year salary breakdown

Here’s how Henderson’s contract looks season by season:

  • 2025:
    • Base salary: $840,000
    • Cap hit: $2.03 million
  • 2026:
    • Base salary: $1.35 million
    • Cap hit: $2.53 million
  • 2027:
    • Base salary: $1.85 million
    • Cap hit: $3.04 million
  • 2028:
    • Base salary: $2.36 million
    • Cap hit: $3.55 million

Even at its peak, Henderson’s cap hit remains modest, never eclipsing just over 1% of the league salary cap, giving the Patriots cost certainty at one of the game’s most volatile positions.

Henderson’s 2025 rookie season

Henderson’s rookie season quickly validated why New England was willing to guarantee his entire contract.

In 2025, he finished among the team leaders in rushing yards and yards after contact, showcasing the burst and balance that made him one of the top backs in his draft class. He averaged 5.1 yards per carry on the ground and added another 350+ receiving yards, making him one of the more versatile offensive weapons on the roster. Henderson also graded out well in pass protection, allowing one of the lowest pressure rates among rookie backs while keeping quarterbacks clean in crucial situations.

By the time New England reached the postseason, Henderson had moved on from promising rookie to meaningful contributor in both the run and passing games.

With three years remaining on a fully guaranteed rookie deal, Henderson’s long-term outlook is as stable as any young running back in the league.

Whether the Patriots’ season ends this weekend or continues all the way to the Super Bowl, Henderson’s rookie year has already laid the foundation for him to be a central figure in the offense through at least the 2028 season.
