Estados Unidos Update:

The Dallas Cowboys are the most valuable franchise in the entire NFL, and they are so because they know how to save money by only extending the contracts of players who are performing to the required level.

So much so that the contracts of the best within the organization have specific clauses that guarantee certain needs of Jerry Jones’ team. Such is the case with the contract of Trevon Diggs, who will lose half a million dollars heading into next season.

Diggs penalized

According to a report by The Dallas Morning News, the Cowboys plan to exercise the clause that allows them to subtract $500,000 from Diggs’ base salary in 2025 for not participating in offseason activities at the team’s facility.

Injuries have plagued Diggs so much in recent years that he’s only played in 13 games over the past two seasons. He tore the ACL in his left knee in 2023, and last year he suffered cartilage problems. The Alabama graduate has 46 tackles and three interceptions during that period.

The cornerback’s contract stipulated that Diggs had to conduct 84% of his offseason workouts at the Cowboys’ facility. However, Stefon Diggs’ brother did not comply with that agreement because he has decided to rehabilitate his knee surgery away from the Texas team.

How much money will Trevon Diggs make in 2025?

After the suspension for leaving the team facility, Diggs’ base salary will drop from $9 million to $8.5 million. The upside is that the cornerback has a signing bonus income for a five-year extension in 2023 that amounts to $2.94 million. He will also receive $647,000 for being on the roster.

In total, the cornerback’s cap hit for the Cowboys for the 2025 season will be $12.08 million, or 4.33% of the salary cap. His contract with Dallas runs through 2028, but the final two years are no longer guaranteed.
