It’s certainly not a fortunate event, but it seems the Dallas Cowboys may have an unexpected advantage over the New Orleans Saints when they play at AT&T Stadium this Sunday, September 15.

New Orleans impacted by Tropical Storm Francine

Tropical Storm Francine is making its way from the Gulf of Mexico towards Louisiana. It is expected to intensify and turn into a hurricane before it arrives in Louisiana on Wednesday. The storm appears to be pushing more towards New Orleans than originally expected, which could impact the Saints’ practice plans for the week.

The Saints do not expect to have to evacuate, but the practice schedule for Wednesday and Thursday may need to be adjusted. Considering they head to Dallas, Texas to play the Cowboys on Sunday, that’s not great news for the Saints.

Saints head coach Dennis Allen plans to meet with the team today to discuss a potential change in plans. “My plan is to have a Zoom call with the team at some point tomorrow and we’ll talk about what we need to do,” Allen said on Monday. “I think we probably do this better than anybody else in the National Football League, so we’ll figure it out.”

It’s true that the Saints have had to adjust their schedule due to inclement weather several times in the past and Allen has been around for many of those instances. In 2021, the Saints had to move there training camp to Dallas and cancel their last preseason game due to Hurricane Ida, which made its landfall on the 16th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. They had to move their season opener against the Packers to Florida and weren’t able to have a home game until Week 4.

They had to adjust due to weather issues in 2008 because of Hurricane Gustav, in 2012 due to Hurricane Isaac, in 2013 due to Tropical Storm Karen, and in 2020 because of Hurricane Zeta.

Kickoff for Sunday is set for 1 p.m. ET at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas. The Saints are coming off of a 47-10 win over the Carolina Panthers. The Cowboys are coming off of a big road win over the Cleveland Browns. They may be helped by this unfortunate potential shift in the Saints’ practice schedules and take advantage to keep that momentum going. Hopefully the Saints players and all those in the affected areas are able to stay safe.
