Tua’s honest response to Mike McDaniel’s “10 picks” message says it all
Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa isn’t shying away from accountability, and his latest response to head coach Mike McDaniel proves it.

It’s no secret that Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa isn’t having his best run. He was pulled from the end of Sunday’s loss to the Cleveland Browns after completing just 12 of 23 passes for 100 yards and three interceptions, which would mark his second straight game with three picks.
Head coach Mike McDaniel confirmed that Tua would still be the Dolphins’ starter, but that he expects “that we don’t throw 10 picks”. It may be harsh, but it’s the reality of the situation, and Tagovailoa knows it.

Tua’s classy response to McDaniel’s turnover comments
After McDaniel’s interview, Tagovailoa met the comment head-on with refreshing honesty.
“That’s true, no?” Tagovailoa said. “You don’t want anyone that’s going in there to hinder the team from being able to win the game. The way I’ve turned the ball over this year, you can’t expect to help the guys win the game.”

It was a candid acknowledgment from a player who’s known for keeping things positive, even under scrutiny. Through seven weeks, Tagovailoa has thrown for over 1,800 yards and 13 touchdowns, but also 10 interceptions, tying him for the league lead in turnovers.
McDaniel’s comment wasn’t a warning shot as much as it was a challenge - one that his quarterback seems eager to accept. The Dolphins have leaned heavily on their fast-paced, explosive offense, but ball security has become the main talking point as Miami tries to regain its early-season rhythm. For Tagovailoa, the message from his coach clearly resonated.
“Can’t turn the ball over and expect to win the game when you lose the turnover margin,” he said. “So that’s what is known for me, for sure. And I got to be better in that aspect coming into this game against the No. 1 pass defense.”
As Miami prepares for another pivotal AFC matchup this Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons, the chemistry between McDaniel and Tagovailoa remains evident. It’s honest and blunt, but there’s a mutual respect and shared goal of winning football games.
