Tyreek Hill’s three-word response on Miami Dolphins future
After failing to make the playoffs for the first time in his career, Hill made clear that he wants to leave Miami in the offseason.
The Miami Dolphins fell to a 32-20 loss to the New York Jets on Sunday, ending any hope of sneaking in to the playoffs. An expensively-assembled team has underperformed this season, with wide receiver Tyreek Hill chief among those frustrations.
Hill was not even on the field for the fourth quarter in a must-win game against the Jets and he cut a frustrated figure in the post-game. When asked about his future with the Dolphins, he made clear that he is considering a move away: “For me, I just have to do what’s best for me and my family - if that’s here or wherever the case may be. I’m about to open up that door for myself.”
Hill continued: “I’m out, bruh. It was great playing here but at the end of the day, I have to do what’s best for my career."
Hill still has two years to run on the huge five-year, $120 million deal signed with Miami back in 2022. The 30-year-old played for the Kansas City Chiefs for six years but left after losing the 2021 AFC Champions game to the Cincinnati Bengals. Three years on, he may be looking back at that decision with severe regret.
What did Mike McDaniel say about Tyreek Hill?
Hill did offer something of an olive branch to Dolphins fans after his postgame outburst, writing on X: “Love fin nation blessing yall opened doors for the Hill family forever.”
However his comments, particularly coming as team captain, have only complicated life for Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel. When asked about the decision not to include Hill in the final two Dolphins possessions of the game, McDaniel revealed that it was not injury-related: “I was informed that he was unavailable right before a drive. I was not informed that it wasn’t a new injury.”
A refusal to play, coming at the most important point of the season, would surely be the final nail in the coffin of Hill’s underwhelming Miami Dolphins career. Nevertheless, McDaniel refused to pass comment on Hill’s behaviour on Sunday, insisting that it would be dealt with in course.
“It would be unfair for me to match emotion with emotion,” McDaniel told reporters. “Right after a game when your season ends, when you are fighting for it to extend and with the full belief that you have the ability for that to happen.”
“I’m not going to make a rash judgment on something that, again, it’s a little cloudy in the heat of the moment for multiple reasons.”
