The Minnesota Vikings came from behind to beat the Cleveland Browns 21-17 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London during Week 5. Carson Wentz threw a game-winning touchdown to Jordan Addison with just 25 seconds left, keeping alive Cleveland’s notorious streak of rookie quarterbacks losing in their NFL debuts. Dillon Gabriel finished 19-of-33 for 190 yards and two touchdowns, leaving the Browns’ debut record at 0-17.

With the win, the Vikings improved to 3-2 on the season, while the Browns fell to 1-4. Minnesota will enjoy a bye in Week 6, while Cleveland returns home to face the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Rookie Browns QB Gabriel shows flashes

Gabriel capitalized on a turnover forced by his defense to score his first NFL touchdown. Jordan Mason fumbled at midfield, and Gabriel leaned on running back Quinshon Judkins to move the ball to the 1-yard line. The Oregon graduate then connected with Harold Fannin on a 1-yard pass to put Cleveland on the board.

The Vikings answered quickly with an unusual scoring play. Running back Cam Akers threw a 15-yard pass to tight end Josh Oliver, who gained an additional 17 yards after the catch for the touchdown. Wentz lined up as a wide receiver on the play, drawing the defense away and leaving Oliver wide open.

Browns take halftime lead

Cleveland entered halftime ahead after kicker Andre Szmyt hit a 31-yard field goal. The Browns had driven to Minnesota’s 8-yard line, but a false start by KT Leveston and an incomplete pass to David Njoku limited them to just three points.

Mason redeemed himself in the third quarter with a rushing touchdown up the middle, capping a 71-yard drive highlighted by Wentz connections with Jordan Addison and Justin Jefferson.

Gabriel answered with a touchdown of his own, orchestrating a slow, clock-consuming drive that ended with a pass to Njoku with 3:09 left in the third quarter.

Vikings rally late to seal victory

Early in the fourth quarter, Zavier Scott fumbled after being hit by Isaiah McGuire and Shelby Harris. Cleveland failed to capitalize and had to punt after three plays. Minnesota attempted a 51-yard field goal, but Will Reichard’s kick sailed wide right.

With 3:05 remaining, the Vikings advanced to Cleveland’s 12-yard line. Wentz found Addison in the end zone to take the lead. After Reichard’s extra point, the Browns had just 25 seconds to respond. Gabriel moved the ball to midfield and heaved a pass toward Jamari Trash, but Cleveland could only reach the 27-yard line, sealing Minnesota’s comeback.
