Von Miller has been placed on the injured reserve list and will have to miss several games.

The Buffalo Bills made the decision today after having been assessing their star edge rusher since Thanksgiving Day when he sustained the lateral meniscus injury.

Miller went down in the first half of the game in Detroit when his leg got caught under a Lions offensive lineman.

“We’ve been assessing Von this week and seeing how he is, and we don’t want to rush him back,” Brandon Beane told reporters. “This gives us a chance to go ahead and count tonight’s game and three more on injured reserve. And hopefully, we can get him back for the stretch run.”

Beane added that this move allows Miller to heal properly and hopefully be back in time for the final two regular-season games against the Bengals and Patriots, in addition to the playoffs.

“He’s been doing treatment and trying to rehab it,” Beane said. “.... he’s a competitor. That’s why we love him. That’s why he’s so great. The competitor in him – if he could wheel it out there tonight, he would do it. We just think in talking to the medical people that the best decision right now is to give this time, and that gives him the best opportunity to help us down the stretch.”

When will Miller be back?

Miller, however, was already optimistic about the possibility of returning in time for the Dec. 11 game against the Jets, as he said on his own podcast earlier this week.

The 33-year-old is looking at four weeks minimum before being able to get back to the field.

Miller has lived up to his role

Miller signed a six-year, $120 million free-agent contract before the start of the 2022 season and he has measured up to that status from day one. He leads Buffalo with eight sacks and 45 QB pressures.

Fortunately for the Bills, they have Greg Rousseau and A.J. Epenesa back in the lineup on Thursday night in New England, after they missed the last few games. Still, not having their best rusher around is a blow to the defense, especially now that Buffalo is playing three consecutive games against AFC East opponents.
