Vrable´s consolation to New England Patriots players after losing Super Bowl

The New England Patriots exceeded all of the expectations coming into the season, and a large part of the turnaround falls on head coach Mike Vrable.

The transition from player to coach isn’t one that everyone who has played in the NFL can make. Mike Vrabel has shown that he was not just born to play, but born to coach in the two head coaching stints he’s had in the NFL.

Pats come up short of ultimate turnaround

As the head coach of a 53 man team, there is so much you have to be accountable for. If your team is winning, you have to keep them winning, and keep them motivated to continue playing and practicing with the same intensity and desire. When you lose, that’s when the job becomes even harder.

Mike Vrabel had and incredible first season in New England. He took control of a 4-13 team from last year, and turned them into the AFC Champions and runners up in the Super Bowl. After the game it was his turn console his guys in the tunnel as the Patriots returned with their heads hung following a great season that had a brutal ending.

As his guys returned to the locker room, Vrabel was waiting in the tunnel, with one message. “We got to be pissed together. You know what I mean. 307 days. That’s all it was. We’ve got a lot more days ahead of us… We got a lot more football in our program,” said the Pats head coach.

Plenty of time for Pats

Everywhere Mike, Vrabel has gone he has triumphed. As a player he won three Super Bowls with the New England Patriots. As a coach he took the Tennessee Titans to the AFC Championship in the 2019 season. Four years later he was let go and teams lined up around the block to have him on the sideline.

He went back to the home where he won three Lombardi Trophies. He was hired in January, but the 307 days refers to April 7th when Vrabel introduced a team building exercise in Pats voluntary offseason program. That was considered the first day the team was together.

When you see how he treats his team, and how his players respect him you start to understand why he has been such a successful coach everywhere he has gone. No one thought the Patriots would be in the playoffs this year, let alone the Super Bowl. New England superseded all of the expectations that even Pats fans had coming into the year. Vrabel had one last message for his team, “We ain´t done. You hear me?”
