Washington Commanders 12 vs 7 Chicago Bears summary: stats, and highlights | NFL Week 6
The Washington Commanders went into Chicago and got a much needed win over the Bears on Thursday night. Rookie running back Brian Robinson had 60 yard and the game winning touchdown in the 12-7 victory.
It was not the most flashy, or attractive primetime game of the season, as two struggling teams were under the lights in the Windy City.
The Bears offense has been suspect since the start of the season, but they looked the better of the two teams in the first half, but couldn’t take advantage of their ability to move the ball.
They made it inside the Washington 5 yard line twice, but failed to get on the scoreboard on both occasions. The first failed attempt in the red zone came when Justin Fields was picked by Johnathan Allen late in the first quarter.
On the next Bears possession, Khalil Herbert busted a 64 yard run to inside the five yard line. The Commanders defense came up with a goal line stand to keep the game scoreless until late in the first half.
Despite barley moving the ball in the first two quarters, Washington were the first ones to score after two pass interference calls moved the Commanders into striking distance. Joey Sly hit a 38 yard field goal with less than a minute to go in the second quarter.
The Bears would have to wait until the third quarter to get on the board. Justin Fields had a quick strike bomb to Dante Pettis for a 40 yard touchdown to take the momentary lead, but Washington answered back with a field goal on the following possession to make the score 7-6.
The Bears were bending, but not breaking. But the final blow came when Velus Jones muffed a punt in the fourth quarter. Two plays later Brian Robinson, who just made his return after falling victim to a armed robbery, gave the Commanders the 12-7 lead on a one yard TD run.
The Bears would get another chance after Slye missed a 48 yard field goal with under two minutes to go in the fourth quarter. Chicago took over from their own 38 yard line and drove all the way down to the Washington 4 yard line. On 4th and Goal, Fields was looking for Darnell Mooney at the goal line, but he bobbled the ball and was pushed out of the end zone to give the Commanders the road win in Soldier Field.
After the Commanders kicked a field goal late in the first half, Fields found Pettis on this 40 yard bomb for a TD.
In the second quarter, it was Khalil Herbert who was stopped at the goal line after getting the Bears inside the five with a 64 yard run.
This should have been an indication of how this game was going to go. Fields gets the Bears inside the 5, but Allen comes up with the pick.
Mooney had a crack at it on 4th down, but bobbled the catch on the goal line, was pushed back, made the catch but short of the end zone.

Robinson returns in stylr
It was the moment of the NFL season so far as Brian Robsinson made his debut after being shot twice in a home invasion two months ago. The emotional moment couldn’t carry the Commadners to victory at home
Wentz needs a win
Carson Wentz is coming off his highest passing total of the season. He threw for 359 yards and two touchdowns, but his one interception cost the Commanders the game. Washington's QB1 has 10 TDs which is tied for fifth with Justin Herbert, but his six interceptions are third most in the league. He will need to protect the football if Washington are going to have a chance tonight.
Field day?
Justin Fields has been given the keys to the car in his second year as the Bears quarterback. It has been a bumpy ride in his first year starting the season as the Bears QB1. He is averaging just 135.8 yards passing a game, and has more interceptions (4) than he does touchdowns (3). He does have 194 yards on the ground (49 yards per game) and a touchdown on the ground. When his offensive line protects him, Fields can make some pretty impressive throws, but that doesn’t happen too often.
Will Wentz go Wild?
The Commanders put up 64 points in their first two games of the season, and while they didn’t look like one of the best teams in the league at least their games were exciting. Over the last three weeks they are averaging just over 11 points a game, and are now neither winning nor entertaining their fans. Carson Wentz threw for over 350 yards last week, but the Commanders only managed 14 points.
Bears in the building
Chicago return home after a disappointing visit to Minnesota. The game against the Vikings was under a dome, but Chicago have had to play some sloppy games already this year. It’s going to be a chilly fall night for Cole Kmet and the Bears but it doesn’t look like there will be much for rain tonight at Soldier Field.
Washington last timeout
The Commanders have won just one of their first five games, and Ron Rivera’s defense has looked suspect throughout the season. One thing Carson Wentz and Washington did do in the first few games was score, but the offense has dried up in the last three weeks. Washington went blow for blow with last year’s top seed in the AFC, the Tennessee Titans last week but a last second goal line interception undid the Commanders. Wentz had 359 yards a two touchdowns, but had the crucial mistake on 3rd and Goal with just seconds remaining
Bears' last time out
The Baby Bears won two of their first three games, and there was some unexpected hope floating around the Windy City. That hope was quickly given a dose of reality after losing two straight one possession games to the Giants, and the Vikings. Last week Justin Fields and the Bears kept it close in Minnesota, and had a chance to tie the game up down 29-22, but their comeback chances were ended abruptly when Cameron Danztler ripped the ball out of Ihmir Smith-Marsette’s hands. Fields had 193 yards and a touchdown and led the Bears in rushing with 47 yards, but the Bears dropped to 2-3 after the late fumble.
We are live from Chicago

One of these two teams will come out of tonight with a much needed win.
