As financial factors impact professional sports, team valuations are crucial in determining economic standings. These valuations depend on performance, market reach, and fan engagement.

NFL teams are becoming more valuable yearly, with no end in sight. Recently, the professional football team valuation landscape has changed significantly.

The Dallas Cowboys are still the most valuable team with a staggering $9.2 billion valuation, a 20% increase in just one year, and they also made an outstanding $460 million before taxes last season, which was the most in the league. As a reminder, the Cowboys had a 12-5 season and ended their playoff run in the divisional playoffs against the 49ers.

Meanwhile, the New York Giants, who had a surprisingly good season, with a playoff appearance after a long hiatus, have moved up to the second spot on the list with a $7.04 billion valuation, a 23% increase over the past year, proving their economic resilience and growing popularity.

After winning the Super Bowl last year and having a disastrous season this year, the Los Angeles Rams have slipped to third place with a $6.94 billion valuation, a 17% decrease from the previous year, highlighting the dynamic nature of the sports industry. The fourth and fifth positions in the rankings are rounded by the New England Patriots ($6.7 billion) and San Franciso 49ers ($6.15 billion).

Only four of the top 10 NFL franchises in value reached the playoffs last season. This means there isn’t always a direct correlation between on-field and off-field success. The Cowboys are a perfect example, with just three playoff wins in the last 13 seasons and no NFC Divisional Round since 1995.

During the previous season, we also witnessed a team takeover, the Washington Commanders were taken over by a group led by Josh Harris for a record-breaking $6.05 billion, surpassing the Walton-Penner family’s prior record of $4.65 billion for the Broncos the year before and David Tepper’s $2.275 billion for the Panthers in 2018.
