Andrew Brandt is a former NFL executive for the Green Bay Packers and he’s spoken his mind on the Dallas Cowboys heading into the 2024-25 season, and it’s not nice for the Cowboys. Brandt appeared on an episode of sports podcast Outback Hot Mic, and he delivered some rather brutal food for thought for Dallas.

What did Brandt say about the Cowboys?

As we all know, there has been some contract controversy over the offseason with the Cowboys. They’ve yet to resign quarterback Dak Prescott, who’s entering the final year of his contract and would become a free agent after the season if a new deal is not reached. The same can be said for their star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, who is expected to miss out on training camp if a deal is not reached before then. One of their best defenders, edge rusher Micah Parsons is also looking for an extension as his contract comes to an end in 2025.

It’s not a good look for the Cowboys, who’ve also not made any big offseason moves at all, neglecting to sign any big names or make any big trades. Brandt did not hold back when he talked about the subject.

“They cannot do anything. Play it out, maybe franchise next year or maybe pay him through the roof,” said Brandt. “Let him go, where he’ll make the biggest contract ever in free agency, because players like him never get to free agency, or try to do something now. But the fact that they haven’t done something when they have Micah Parsons and CeeDee Lamb waiting for cap room to do something, the only way they’re getting cap room is through Dak Prescott.”

Brandt also touched on the fact that Dallas’ coach Mike McCarthy, whom he hired to be the Packers’ head coach 15 years ago, is also in the last year of his contract, “riding it out” just like Prescott.

“So, I just look at the Cowboys, like, wow, this is kind of a let-it-ride, lame-duck year, [it] just seems like, and no Dak Prescott next year – just seems like that to me,” said Brandt. “At this point, I’d be surprised if they do his contract.”

Cowboys fans certainly hope that Brandt is wrong about that, as a team with no Prescott would leave options that I’m not sure are better for Dallas’ future if they ever want to see Super Bowl glory again.
