Just hours after the release of WNBA player Brittney Griner was announced, several personalities from the world of sports reacted through social networks.

Among them was Dallas Cowboys linebacker Micah Parsons, who tweeted what seemed to be a criticism of the fact that Griner was released while Paul Whelan, a Marine imprisoned in Russia, is still being held.

Micah Parsons: ‘We left a Marine’

“Wait nah!! We left a Marine?!! Hell nah,” Parsons wrote on his Twitter account.

Just over an hour later, he clarified that he was glad that the WNBA star was coming home, and said that “my last tweet was no shot at Brittney Griner.”

“I’m super happy she’s back home as she should be. I just have family who have served and it’s crazy to me the President wouldn’t bring him home too. I’m the furthest thing from a Trump supporter but I’m not a fan of Biden either,” he said.

Parsons apologizes shortly after

Parsons acknowledged his mistake after being told that the case of Whelan is being treated differently, due to the fact that Russia has been more demanding on the issue, a situation that President Joe Biden revealed.

“We haven’t forgotten about Paul Whelan. This was not a choice about which American to free. Russia is treating Paul’s case differently... We are not giving up,” said the president.

Finally, the linebacker added, “Just spoke to some people that I respect and trust. I should have been more educated on the topic and not tweeted out of emotion for my family and others who have served. For that I apologize.”

Also if what I’m told about the attempts to bring Ret Marine Paul Whelan home are true, then the best outcome was accomplished. I pray Mr. Whelan comes home but am extremely happy for Brittney and her family. I am not too prideful to admit when I’ve made a mistake.”
