What did Rob Gronkowski say about New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones?
The Patriots aren’t doing well and with pressure continuing to mount, a former star player has now called for the quarterback to seek greener fields.
From the team’s legendary head coach Bill Belichick to franchise owner Robert Kraft, everything is currently under the microscope in New England. That’s precisely why a former star feels it could be time for the team’s quarterback to ‘get out of Dodge’
Rob Gronkowski thinks Mac Jones should leave New England
Let’s set the stage for you. At 2-8, the New England Patriots are in the middle of their worst season in recent memory. While there have been several contributing factors to the team’s current state of affairs, it would be fair to say that starting quarterback Mac Jones has been one of the major ones. Yet, if we take the comments of former Patriots star Rob Gronkowski, it’s about cutting losses. Speaking during an appearance on “Up & Adams” on Wednesday, Gronkowski explained that he believes that Jones needs to ask for his release from the Patriots organization. The former tight end didn’t stop there either as he went on to disclose where he believes Jones should go: The Cleveland Browns.
“I think Mac Jones should ultimately just go and ask for his release,” Gronkowski said. “Ask for his release and then he should go sign with the Cleveland Browns and start a new career right there.” In case you didn’t know, the Browns are still reeling from the loss of quarterback Deshaun Watson whose season-ending shoulder injury will now have to be repaired via surgery. To that end, one can understand why Gronk might have made the suggestion.
OK, but how has Mac Jones been playing?
To be honest, not great. In the 10 games that Jones has played this season, the former first-round pick in the 2021 NFL Draft has a 65.4% pass completion rate for 2,031 yards and 10 touchdowns, but he’s also got 10 interceptions. In the Patriots’ most recent game, a 13-10 loss to the Indianapolis Colts in Germany, Jones threw 15-of-20 for 170 yards and an interception. This from a player who was selected to the Pro-Bowl in 2021, his rookie year. Ultimately, there has been no official word that the Patriots are planning to part ways with their signal caller, nor has he given us any reason to believe that he’d like to leave. On the other hand, it’s clear that things aren’t working in New England i.e., don’t be surprised if we see Jones’ status changing sooner rather than later.
